Where is the damage on the belt? If it is on an edge could be an alignment problem. The crank pulley and supercharger pulley must be parallel and aligned. Slipping usually results in belt dust around the pulleys.

Sounds like it's getting caught on something or isn't aligned good enough.

i was looking at the tensioner pulley from the mount on the procharger and it looks like it may be installed wrong. it looks like there is a lip on the opposite end of the pulley that may prevent the belt from rubbing on the bracket. I will need to look at it but its gonna be awhile until i do. Can that pulley be installed backward?????

Which side of the belt is most frayed? Is the head unit pulley properly spaced out?

You can usually tell when looking down at the blower in between the pulley and the head unit if the shims are in place. Especially since the edge of the head unit pulley would be very close to the face of the bracket.

I did this a couple times, I forgot to retighten the idler pulley. Then, I would keep tightening the tensioner down due to slipping and then pop. No more belt.

I fought with pulley alignment issues with the original install on my GTO. tried straight edges, laser sights, all kinds of issues. Mine wanted to walk off the front, ie away from the blower. What finally solved it was this procedure:

I backed off the blower pulley bolt several turns...approx .250. Start the car and let it idle, the pulley found its center, I was able to actually see the pulley had moved while the engine was running. With the engine shut down, I measured the gap between the pulley and blower, shimmed accordingly, torqued the pulley bolt, done....that solved all of my belt alignment issues.

Ron, that's a great way to see how the belt is tracking. Bob

Thanks guys....one caveat on this procedure. You have to make sure your pulley moves fairly easily on the blower shaft. I used a little bit of anti seize which works great.

Obviously with safety in mind, this is an Idle only procedure..
