Default Looking for build advice...turbo, cam, etc

Ive been doing a little researching and want to do a forged turbo setup for 2011. Ive had my eyes on the AES motors as they seem to run well, and are reasonably priced, and local. Im currently looking at their 2nd level 390 with the callies h-beam rods. I want to run this with a set of LSA heads and LS9 gaskets in front of a 4l80e. Car will be about 3300lbs.

I also want it to be streetable, driving it to work in the city when its nice out. yet make a lot of power. High 8s, low 9s in a sorted out chassis.

Im guessing I could pull this off with a truck manifold kit, 2.5" crossover pipes, to an 88mm turbo? Could I get away with something smaller?

Point me in the right direction please!!!

So it looks like Ill need a GT88 or GT91. Looks like they have a good track record and arent too expensive. It also says theyre offered in a T4. How bad would the T4 kill perofrmance on one of these?

Anyone have a cam recommendation? Looks like a lot of you guys like the TU1. Would that be a good matchup, or am I getting out of its working range?

if your looking for a car that will do high 8s then it not going to be very pleasurable to drive on the streets
making to power to do it is not the hard part, but making the suspension/weight/safety ect........ is where its going to kill your dream
im not saying its not possible but it will cost way more then you think to have a 8sec street car

This will also be going into a 1987 Notchback mustang. So weight will not be an issue, and suspension is already there. Safety? You dont need safety to go fast...lol I wanna make 800rwhp through a 4l80e, which Ive already got a lead on a built one.

Why does it have to meet any track requirements to be able to run 8's and drive on the street? I think you are talking about having an 8 second TRACK car that you can drive on the street. Two different hings. A Car can run a high 8 and then get kicked off the track for not meeting requirements.

Also for 800rwhp a 88 should work fine but I don't think you will see more than high 9s
But I could be wrong

I dunno how it is in Chicago or California, but here in Detroit, unless youre running in a class with rules, the tech is a little more than making sure you have seatbelts and a helmet

800rwhp is WAAAY faster than high 9's if the car is built to hook!!

And op, unless you're adding weight intentionally, you will be WAAAY under 3300#'s!! My old notch was 2750 with me in it with an ls1/6spd full interior, all power options and stock sn-95 brake conversion! A little weight was removed but no cutting, just poly seats, drag rims, no a/c sorta thing. I know 2 guys on here with lsx turbo mustangs, and the one that is a hatch with a 408 iron motor/80mm combo is 2750 without him in it and ran 8.60's with an ebay fmic to boot! Looking for 8.30's this year! This is with e'85 but i'm guessing you're looking at running race fuel anyway at the strip so you should have no problem getting a high 8 at least out of the car once sorted out.

And for another comparison, MightyMouse is about 3600rw with that gt88 and went mid 8's last year and just upped to the gt91 so bottom 8's may be in order this year!

Bottom line is it can be done with the right parts. Making the power wont be the hard part, even with truck manifolds. Your #1 issue will be getting the susp/chassis to work. I would recommend MWC...Midwest Chassis to help you out with that since they're local as well. If you have the budget, it's very doable!!

I think you are in the ball-park with the turbo you have in mind, the cam... i like it to sound good, like better than music, 232 duration on the intake and about 116 lsa will do...

Would the TU2 cam suit my needs or would the TU1 be better? Im having a 400" motor built, heads will most likely be L92, LSA, or LS9. with a 3500 stall, Truck Manifolds with 2.5" pipes to a T4 GT88 or GT91

The tu1 is too small for 400".
