Default IAT Control

After searching for different applications for Methanol use everything I came up with related to boost. I want to use it as a safty measure for air temperature. Can a Methanol system be controlled through the IAT sensor to strictly keep intake temperatures in check? What would be the best position for the Meth; before the supercharger, after the supercharger but before the intercooler, or after the intercooler before the TB?

I want to have my car tuned without being reliant on Methanol, but I'm looking into using it to help control IATs if that's possible.

By what I've been told and understand the best place is just before the IAT.

The cooling mist kit I have can be tuned on any 0-5V reference so yes, you can run it off the IAT sensor as well. You can set the pump to start on lower psi (or voltage reference from the sensor) and as the IAT's go up, increase and ramp the pump up to spray more meth for the higher IAT levels.

im sure there is a way to trigger it for IAT, most people run it approx 6" in front of the t/body. remember it is a liquid and you do not want it pooling in the bottom of your intercooler or pipes. cooling IAT is what meth is all about, not really for extra fuel-(most just want the cooling side affect/octaine boost) "some use 100% meth for extra fuel, i have on my SVO. i think you would want a mix of water/meth and a small nozzle for what you are trying to do. give coolingmist a call, nice kit for what you are trying to do. NOTE: if you spray any mixture of meth/water it will affect you A/F ratio proportional to how much you spray. you could also just spray straight water!

The only problem with using IAT as a reference is that methanol will also richen your AFR. If you happen to be running an engine management system with closed loop wideband then it should be ok.

Thanx everybody. I was looking into the AIS trunk mount kit with their digital controller.

Blue00zzleeper, the way my piping is setup if I run methanol the nozzle would be further than 6" and there's a 90 degree bend in the mix. What's the furthest distance for the nozzle location for it to be effective?

just so i understand why are you concerned about IAT temps. just trying to get a feel for what you are thinking.

im not sure an SD tune will compensate for the meth triggered by an IAT sensor. if it was spraying at the same time all the time, "MAP sensor trigger" the VE tables can be adjusted for the meth hit.

Madmax4499, its for my mostly srreet driven F1A Procharged 403. I'm trying to cover all the basics. I haven't fired it up yet so there's a possibility that I may not have to worry about it, but if I do I want to make an informed decision.

MAP controls my meth and I would run it all the time. If your not going to a crazy set up your not going to use that much meth.

I've set my car up the way you're talking about. I also wanted a single tune that was safe when the meth is off or runs out, and takes advantage of it when it's flowing. By spraying meth before the IAT sensor the PCM can read the lower intake temps and add more timing if you set the tune up that way.

Thanx for the info everybody. White01ss, that's what I want too, a fail safe built into the tune just in case something stops the flow of meth.

Is this a drag car or a street setup? Just thinkign there are other ways too keep an intercooler temps down. Could look at water injection (dont think that affects AFR) or even couple of intercooler spray jets. These basically spray the intercooler in a fine mist of wate. This helps pull more heat form the IC resulting in lower IATs. Both the above are used in competative racing and have been tried and tested for YEARS!!!

Chris.

This is mostly a street car that will see some drag strip duty from time to time.

I would put it in front of iat, this way if pump fails, the iat will see the higher temps and ecm will make adjustments

you will be fine, just do it. i have to slow my thinking down a lot. LOL. look at the meth kits they sell or market towards EVO's the zertronics stuff can fail safe a meth kit in many ways IAT, A/F just about anything. to be honest, with all the cool technical ways to do it. i still think the simplest is always the most reliable and repeatable.

Thanx everybody for your input. Ouestion, my IAT sensor is 8 - 9" from the TB. How far can the meth nozzle be? Is it ok to have the meth spraying directly on the sensor?

That will be fine. Remember there will be alot of air going by as well so it wont stay soaked. Thats how mine is set up, and the tuner tells me that what he wants.
