Default What gear for th400. I have two options...3.0 or 3.25

I am going to be running a 28" tire and have two choices here. Either a 3.00 or a 3.25 ring gear. Car has a th400 rmvb and a TB. Running about 11-19 pounds of boost.

Thanks

Weight is roughly 3800. Motor is a 370CI. Stock gearing in the trans. I would like to come thru the traps at 140+ but haven't run the car yet so that will yet to be seen.

either will work, but the 3.08 will calm the car down off the line more, thats gonna be about the only difference.

145mph will only be 5700rpm with 3.25 gears. I would(and am) go with 3.50 with a 28" tire. It's enough gear to go 165 @ 7000rpm.

Your calculator is a bit off. I have a 3.54 gear and trap 152 @ 7200 with a 28" drag radial. With a stick shift car or a lock up converter maybe but a converter is going to slip a bit up top.

id say 350 gr. no transbrake ur gona need the little extra gear to keep the 60ft. evan with a brake id still think a 3.50 would be plenty. my budie is running the 3.50 gr 28" th400 combo arround 650whp and works great with a lot of gear left. turbo as well just not turned up the boost cause hes on the stock bottom end.

I went with 3.00 gear and 28" in my 640rwhp TA and it was almost to much gear.... You need to account for what trap speed you will run, tire size, motor rpm, weight, converter slip, trans gear ratio, ect... ect....
