Help! Pt88 or Tc78 or 76GTS
Guys I've been reasearching and need help. Yes i've searched... I'm building a 346 Ls1 and its goin in my 92 Z28. The car weighs in at approx 3200lbs. Also will bebacked by a 4l80e and a 3.25 9" rear. Now it come stime to pick a turbo.. I'd like to make over 600HP and room to grow to 800HP. But really what are the street matters of the pt88?? I've heard pretty laggy.. and the car will be mostly street driven, so that leaves the TC78 or the 76 gts. Which has more power potential? a lot of people love the tc78 but not a lot of info on the 76gts. Is there a 78GTS? Now what a/r? Thanks in advance. Will post pics of build

I like my Pt88 for daily driving, I know your worried about lag. It wasn't a big factor what was though is the power it makes. It comes on smooth but very hard at the same time. Hopefully you don't already have traction problems.

In order of power capability (most hp first): PT88, 76GTS, TC78
In order of spool time (fastest first): TC78, 76GTS, PT88
For your 800hp goal, I'd go for the 76GTS. I've done a TON of research on these 3 particular turbos for my own setup. The 76GTS will spool only slightly slower than the TC and will make significantly more power. The PT88 will make even more power, but it seems like they have some reliability issues, and it will also be harder to make fit in the car.
Just my $.02

I'd go with a PT88 with a smaller exhaust housing to help with spool. Read some of the threads on the TC78 and I think you'll realize it's a great turbo for 600-650hp but not the turbo for 800hp.
I'm editing my post, what I should of said is don't take the pt88 out of consideration, I would look into if there's a 88mm turbo that is tailered more towards spool and size just like a tc76 vs a T76.

There just doesnt seem like theres a lot of info floating around about the 76gts. And why a .96 a/r? Lot of people say go with the 1.15. I may be able to fit a pt88 at absolute most seeing i'm keeping a/c in the car. Also I can squeeze in maybe a 3.5" downpipe. I think I'm leaning towards the smaller turbos anyway. But I'm just worried about upgrading later. I know 700HP is a lot but who knows I may get tired of that level. When you suppose boost would be coming in on a pt88/ 346 combo?

The TC and the GTS are the same physical size other than the compressor housing being a fair bit larger in diameter on the GTS
The GTS and the PT share the same compressor housing but the bearing housing and turbine housing are much larger on the PT
The GTS will support a good bit more than the TC from the larger turbine (75 v 68) it only spools slightly slower too, I have had both
The PT will be a good bit more unresponsive than the TC or GTS

Do not forget thet ST76-ST80 or the bw S480 series. Stick with the 83-87mm exhaust turbine and they will smoke all these turbos listed. Honestly there are so many better options out there for an 88mm turbo than the PT-88. If you're going to have an 88mm turbo go with one that makes 88mm power otherwise you have a big slow spooling turbo. The S480 can also easily be upgraded later down the road to a bigger wheels.

I just switched from a turbonetics t-76 to a pt88. My pt88 is not very laggy at all. I love it. I have it on stock bottom end with rod bolts and just went 9.69 on 14lbs. Very strong turbo. I would recommend it over the 76gts and the tc78.

Whats the point of an 88mm running 140 mph? You can run well over 140 mph with a 76-80mm turbo. I can understand wanting to really crank things up with an 88mm turbo and go for some 155-165 mph traps but the PT88 has too restrictive of a turbine side for that. If those are your goals than you need to look into a T6 flanged turbo. Really the PT-88 just seems like an oddball to me, 88mm wheels and lag with 80mm power. GT-80 is also a very good unit, the GT-4780 in particular.

Look up NicD, hes gone something around 9.4-9.6 @ 140 + mph on 15lbs of boost with a PT76GTS
