Like the title says, how much timing are you using down low to spool a large turbo?

Yup pt88, was fine at sea level, not so good at 7000da... I have my timing around 20-22 between 2000-3800, two step set at 4000

Which efi system? With BS3 you have a 2 step timing function...I have used 40 degrees in the past on the step without any problems at 4500Ft DA

Stock computer with hp tuners, so I don't have that option. I do have the msd 2step. Just trying to figure out how much more timing I can throw at it and it is still a street car...

Are you able to get on the 2 step? Or are you having a problem stalling up to it with the converter?

I am able to get on the 2step. It just takes about 1.5-2.0 seconds too long.

add timing until it stops spooling faster...upwards of 40 degrees.

Will i have any issues driving it on the street with that much timing? In other words will it harm it or cause detonation?

I'd have a tuneup I use at the track only if you dont have an ECU that will work with a 2/3 step and higher timing values.

Thats why I wa asking you about spool up a while back. Unless racing at altitude people are not going to understand the effect of 7000' DA let alone 10,000' DA has on spool up, and power. The difference between 4500~5500' is huge. My PT88/365'' takes 4~5 sec to hit 4K RPM, and 8psi on the foot brake no 2 step. I'm at 7000'/9500DA, 20*. What cam, and converter are you running?

Let's say that you can get right up on the 2 step @ 4K RPM and it has a 50 RPM spread. So you are only "popping between 3-4 cells on your RPM axis. It's probably already at 1 or 2 PSI so that's 110-120 KPA and it climbs as the boost builds to lets say 155 KPA. So that's the block that you raise timing in. You will likely never hit any of those cells while driving or even racing on the street.

I've heard you can use the idle in drive timing table....be sure and set the min TPS to 100% throttle (and now only the speed determines idle or main spark table). Haven't tried it myself yet though.

Edit: If you have a T56 tune (since your a th400) you should be able to use the idle in park spark table. It will be the ONLY time your motor will be moving that much air at 0 mph.

im at about 20degs. but like killer said you will never be in that area of the timing table driving the car. im going to start adding timing in some places and see what happens
