vortech v9g ??
guys ive got a vortech v9g on a 408 in my camaro....the blower setup was on it when i bought the car....the guy that originally built the car told me it was making 12 lbs of boost when he built it.....since ive had it the guage has never exceeded 6lbs......somewhere along the way a previous owner i guess has pulled boost out....is the pulley the only way to change boost on this thing????coming from a turbo car to this and my other car has a roots style blower that ive changed the pulley on...what are your thoughts on the v9??

That blower is too small for that CI motor! It will NEVER make more than what you are now etc.. You will have to step up to a T-trim or a YSI which RMCR makes the conversion for that kit. Another and probably a better option is Procharger LOL! I used to run that kit and it was great with stock or small CI. GL!

I had a 2.75 pulley on my stock shortblock and the best I could get was about 9#,I agree with the Inspector your going to have to at least go with a ttrim with that big of a motor

That is an 800 cfm blower, 6 lbs. is probably the most you will see. I briefly had the g-trim on a 418 and it made 5 lbs. with the 2.75" pulley. When I put the T-trim on the 418 it only made 11 lbs. with a 2.75" pulley (1200 cfm blower).

Anything else done to the car? I always felt mine was a bit low, but the tuner told me the dynojet across the street will always show 10-15% higher than anything they pull on their SuperFlow. I used to think dynos were the gold standard before that.

IMHO the Procharger is probably better. I can see people arguing this both ways, but the Procharger is self lubricating as opposed to the Vortech which taps into the engine oil. Vortech's intercooler options didn't impress me either. It works fine now that I have the FMIC. These are just some of the small things I've noticed. The decisive factor would be the compressor map.

just full exhaust and the blower with a fmic.
the blower needs a rebuild, and so does the motor. 167k on the dot!

I just picked up this same kit for my camaro...getting ready to do the install only to find that it won't fit under my stock SS hood. Did yours fit without any issues or did you replace the hood with something else?

Curious to know more about the FMIC you have also...I'm not impressed with this dinky little intercooler with my kit either, looks like a radiator out of a Prius or something!! Can you provide more details on it?

well you do have to cut up the ss hood. i ran it under a stock z28 hood and had to cut that up as well. i bought the hood in my sig. for my car because i have a t t trim waiting to go on with a new motor. the fmic for the blower took some time, i re-did it a second time, but this time i got some pieces welded and such. i removed my a/c and pushed my radiator forward a bit to run the pipe from the blower to the fmic. ill post up pictures tomorrow.

My SS hood was cut up a bit too for clearance. My FMIC is bolted in place to the subframe with brackets I made. I bought the car with blower already installed, but installed a new FMIC after a leak was found in the first.

Yeah if you look at the installation instructions it shows where you have to cut the stock steel hood and SS hood. I cut mine on my SSOM car and smoothed them and repainted the hood etc... The most I made with that kit was 601rwhp on stock CI H/C through a 12bolt. Good kit but just has its limitations. And above someone asked if Procharger was better. I don't really think they are better, but there are a lot more options for sizes with out getting a custom made bracket because of the bolt patterens being different on the blowers etc... There was a custom bracket that Speed Inc. used to make for a Vortech YSI and it was nice, but was lacking a few things to make it take off as far as popularity such as price and air filter issues with the steering shaft etc...
