Default Ebay Turbo Kits... Your Thoughts????

Hey guys, I want to turbo my 00 SS and was looking on Ebay and there are a few kits on there. I was wondering if anyone has ran a kit from there and if they have have any problems with any part of it.. Here are a few examples:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3T4-...#ht_6947wt_939

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/camar...ht_3977wt_1042

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/98-02...ht_5346wt_1010

Let me know what you guys think.. Good or bad! I hope I don't get flamed too hard for this!

i have done a lot of research on these kits, if your looking for something thats plug and play, this is not for you, it requires a lot of work to make things work right, but well worth it.... i talked to a buddy of mine and he said 900 hp is NOT out of the question with this kit

To the OP....look at it this way. Just my wastegate and blowoff valve cost nearly half what those kits are selling for, and mine aren't some high end uber expensive pieces either. You think you're getting quality components in those kits selling ALL that stuff for $1000, while factoring in there is a profit margin as well?

Also, one of the kits states that you have to supply your own turbo manifolds, downpipe, and intercooler...

About the cheapest way to turbo your car "the right way" would be a truck manifold turbo setup.

The 3rd link you posted is similar to what I used. They make a seperate kit that is cheaper that doesnt have the ebay turbo, but it also doesnt have an intercooler or piping so thats not a bad price really.

The kit itself is pretty decent, its stainless and the welds are actually very nice. I never got the downpipe to fit at all and the spark plugs were a big bitch. Its manageable.

i had one, and modified it. It was okay, but had crappy ground clearance, and melted plug wires and other junk.

There are 3 criteria for buying an ebay kit:

1. You dont know any better.
2. You THINK you dont want to have to fabricate anything.
3. You dont have much money to spend.

So, now you know better, and you know you have to fabricate to make it work. All youre left with is #3, and since you have to fabricate anyways, do a truck manfold kit, and you'll prob end up spending less.

only upside to the EBAY is its cheap and keeps A/C

Ebay is cheap which is nice, AC is gone already, so i really don't care about that! Like I said I was just wondering what people thought about the kits and I appreciate the replies! thanx guys! I more then likely will do a truck manifold kit as a lot of people have suggested that! I have a 6.0 that's goin in the car too. Thanx for the help/criticism guys!

truck manifolds are the best way to go if you are looking for FAST AND CHEAP. i made 647 hp on 16 psi with a TC76 and truck manifolds.

LOL, forced induction and cheap in the same sentence. Even the truck manifold setup (while the cheapest way) is not cheap. If circa $1000 (Judging by the cost of the turbo kits posted) is your budget you're better off going some other route to make your power.

On another note Hot Rod magazine wrote an article a few months back on these cheap ebay turbos when they used it in a 5.3 lsx build. They said they can make the power promised but the bearings only last for about 5000 miles (If you are lucky). My .02: I wouldn't put one of these in my car.

Tread lightly.

even if i had to custom fab my own down pipe, **** it! i am friends with one of the best welders here... its a tube manifold kit, its pretty nice for only 550$ shipped, i have the waste gate, turbo, and all the cold side piping and ic's i could ever want from another build i did. im gonna wrap the manifolds and the pipes, gonna use fiberglass plug wire covers to keep from melting plug wires, and gonna have me a turbo kit... its a good stepping stone IMO.

if you are friends with a good welder then save the money and buy some flanges and mandrel bends a fab a set of headers and crossover yourself. you can do that for much cheaper than 500 bucks and have it built your way. that ebay stuff is JUNK. the materials are low grade, the fit is sub par and you are supporting terrorism by buying it. lol

i running the same ebay hot parts(ptk) as extremedime, the kit is not super horrible, but dont think of using the down pipe that comes with it, and the vbands fit like crap, honestly the only reason im using it is because i have to keep my ac otherwise it would be truck manifold setup

I have used the ptk copy it looks pretty good, the v band clamps will strip the first time you tighten them down ,and the v bands them selves are not self aligning so they will leak ,, and the header flange bolt holes do not line up with the heads neither do the gaskets ,, you will have to modify it a bit but overall its all there ,,i ditched it for a truck manifold kit ..
