Default ctsv turbo time

So the stock family commuter is due for an upgrade... Gonna try and do this cheap so the nova can get finished... just need something more interesting for the time being...

Stock ls6, I want to make decent rwhp without tearing into the motor... Nobody says its easy, but by looking, plenty of room for front mount. 42lb injectors already here, intercooler on its way. Anybody with any thoughts on turbo size and wastegate? I know ebay gt45 isn't ideal, but would this get me by for now? There is a maggie cts-v up here and i want to show him what turbo's are really about... Anyone with good advice please chime in

Not sure where "plenty of room" is for a front mount. Please elaborate on where you're thinking.

oiless turbo is still very pricey. There's plenty of room up front.... almost 8" in front of radiator, and if you move rad. forward just a touch, or tilt it, should be plenty of room for turbo... looks like a lot more room than on my camaro. How is spool up with a tc76? I was thinking one of those, just thought it might be a little big. What's everyone think as far as hp #'s and boost level to keep it together lo

the TCs are some very fast spooling units.... some of the fastest... great unit for a street car.. with a good tune you could run 10-12 lbs and make some killer power.. there are pics of mine in the parts classifids..

send me a pm if you wanna talk more

No, I was just thinking it would work for awhile. I wanted to do a mpt70, but in since there out, what would be a comparable turbo? Also, what is the smallest hotside pipe could be? I know 2.5 is ideal, but has anyone done it with either 2.25 or 2? Same with intercooler piping, will 2.5 be ok? Just think that smaller pipe I will be able to keep the build clean. Thanks for the inputs!

Not to be a "debbie downer" but what are you going to do with the rear end? They can barely hold the power the stock engine makes. My buddy had on 05' that GM put 4 rear ends in the 1 year for him.

there are a few threads that talk about crossover size and all.. they make big power with the 2.5 like close to 2000 hp goin with a 2.25 would work fine from what people say. i remember on guy going from 2.5 to 2.25 and got rid of some lag.. he said that it made a huge difference for the better goin to the smaller size..

im goin to have to say the TCs would be an amzing turbo for a fun street car.. im not saying this to try to sell mine.. i was building a street car when i bought it and knew it was goin to be a blast.. but my goals changed .. if i dont sell it i will keep it to put on a stock 5.3 just not enough turbo for the weekend toy track car that i building now..

ctsv with a turbo would be nasty.. hope you keep us updated.

I know that 3" intercool piping is best, just wondering if it can be done with 2.5 pipe or is it going to choke it up

2.5" will flow just fine. spool will be quicker and it's easier to package. i used 2.25" to the intercooler and 4" to the TB on mine and it spooled great.
