Default Dilemma with 4.5 intercoolers

The problem I am facing is that I have the 4.5 intercoolers and I don't believe I will achieve my desired 750+ RWHP. The engine it will be going on will be an AES 390 w/D-1, Lonnies fuel pump system and Alky control (M-6 tranny). Some people have said that the intercoolers will choke the air flow and will probably get close to 700 rwhp if anything. My other problem is that there is no local tuners in the area and will have to trailer my vehicle to Dallas, TX (12hrs) to get it tuned and I only want to do it once. Will going to an F1A headunit and more boost get me there or will the intercoolers be way out of their efficiency and still keep me from the power level I seek? If anyone has any dyno graphs with twins hitting 750 rwhp or succeful stories with twins hitting 750 RWHP please share with me..Thanks

There was an article in GM High Tech at one point with someone hitting 800 with the 4.5" intercoolers. I will see tomorrow if I can find it....

I'm pretty sure "Trust" made 808 through an auto with his D1/396ci combo with 4.5" intercoolers.

Yeah trust made just over 800 with the twin intercooler and a lot of Meth with his old D1 396 combo though an auto. Should be really easy with an m6

It's to bad there isn't any tuners here in El Paso. Try the steak at Cattle Mens (The Cowboy) about 48 oz of bliss!!

I'm running the twin 3.5" ones, made 686rwhp in my rx7 with a turbo, thru the auto, 9 inch, and big tires. On my ltd I'm using the same ones, but we put 3" ends on them and run them in series now, my IAT's get high, but it went 142mph in my 3700lb tank. I've since then turned it up another probably 125-150rwhp, I will get on the dyno soon to see, should make 800+ though.

Don't buy cheap ****. My 4.5" intercoolers have supported 1000+whp in several different applications rather efficiently(less than 30degt temp increases in a quarter mile pass on a 1250whp 4 cylinder at 60+psi boost).

He is referring to the ones that come from procharger, same ones I have. Is that what you are running, the procharger ones? If not then your data/info is useless.

This is great news were you running meth? Do you have a pic of how you run them in series?

Yea, good stuff!! I'm going again for fathers day I wish they had a steak contest like Man vs. Food? 60 oz steak would be nice, they say those freakin cayotes are used to eating all the scraps and now they can't get rid of them. Only a matter of time before they bite somome..

Andy, back at the old shop we had a 2004 Corvette making 740 rwhp on the Mustang Chassis Dyno, with a D-1SC at 16 psi of boost, and the twin 4.5" intercoolers and methanol. This Corvette spent two hard years http://www.procharger.com/supercharger/blog/?p=178 on a road course with this combination, then we added cubes and went to an F-1C, keeping the twin intercoolers. Well I have a buddy with a D1 procharged Vett that has made 730 spinning the tires on the dyno but he has a front mount.

I made 800RWHP with twin turbo 408 and twin 4.5" intercooler in series on pump gas. They can definitely get you to 750.

I wouldn't doubt 800rwhp with twin intercoolers, however going from 650rwhp and up, the gains seemed compromised with twin intercoolers, going to sufficient FMIC found more power with less boost.

Going with an F1A doesn't really fix it, that will just build more heat, higher IAT. F series blowers have tendency to slip the belt more then D1SC.

I wouldn't hesitate to run twin intercoolers, however FMIC is surprisingly simple supports higher power levels.

Here are a few details from a build I did 6 years ago...

383 Forged bottom end
317 heads
Fast 78/78 Intake and Throttle body
D1sc - Stock procharger bracket 3.75 blower pulley
4.5 HO intercooler
Alky Controls single noozle "straight Methanol"
6speed
Loonies Performance dual pump kit
93 Oct.

Inlet hat on = 624rwhp
Inlet hat off = 747rwhp -

IAT's unknown. Car is getting returned / checked out tomorrow by Steve "Tuned by Frost" and I'll know a lot more about IAT temps and what not.

Wow, that is a huge difference! Was an air filter included when the inlet hat was on? Bob

How much boost were you making? I'm going with a 3.40 pulley we'll see how much boost this makes with my combo.

Hey Bob I got the pulley and oil today.. Thanks again
