Default STS turbo need help making boost

Background on car: 01 Z28 M6 Mods in signature, and I reacently added a custom STS turbo system with the T60 turbo and Intercooler along with supporting fuel mods pump racetronix 255 and 60# mototron injectors.

Problem: after install I put it on the dyno and to check everthing was running ok the tuner adjusted the fuel and set the spark conservative just to do a test pull and see how much boost it was making. I am running just off the wastegate spring no boost controller, with the 8.7psi spring the car only made 4.5-5psi at the gauge and on the dyno screen checked for boost leak and everything seemed to be fine so we decided to put bigger spring in it so went with the 14.5 spring trying to get 10psi and could only get about 8-8.5 took it out on the road to see how it would do under load and same result and really laggy, I kno the sts setup is little laggy but wont see full boost untill 4500-5000 rpm I have a M6 thru 4.10s wondering if thats what killing my boost/spool time along with the headers I wrapped part of the exhaust but not the headers yet. We are now double springing it with a 18 psi spring to see if we can get it to make 10psi.

My worry is if thats too big of a spring for this turbo and do I run the risk of overspinning the turbo or maybe overboosting and blowing the engine or is this a somewhat normal way to get the boost you desire while using just a wastegate any ideas on what could be wrong or what I could do to fix this is appretiate it

Where is boost gauge hooked up ? Seems like your axing for trouble putting those other springs in if you don't have a built motor.

I plan on ditching the headers eventually stuck with the headers for now and the gauge is tapped into the intake right where the pcv valve used to go runing a catch can setup

make sure before you reference it from the intake manifold that you put the lower springs back in.

itll help with the loss from the piping run and the IC. With it being referenced from the turbo compressor housing it cant accomadate for that.

the 4.10s and LT's are probably hurting you. Also, I don't think that turbo was designed for 10psi.

So got it on the dyno again today still with the wastegate referenced off the turbo and with a 17psi spring combo and after making a few pulls and tweaking the tune and getting the turbo nice and hot the car made 9.5-10 psi and put down 471whp @5700 and 450wtq @5250 with 11.5 AFR Ill try to get the graph posted later. The motor is bone stock with LS6 intake and 80mmTB are these numbers close to what I should expect I'm in school in texas where I am doing the build it was a hot humid day 92 degrees and 63% humidity bar 29.6 in-Hg.

You'll be running out of turbo very soon. Once again ditch the long tubes, run some manifolds and wrap the pipes all the way back.

I wouldn't push that turbo past where you are now. If you push it harder you'll only raise IATs and backpressure and risk harming your stock short block. As has been said, your boost pressure not matching your spring pressure is because of your reference. You're essentially telling the wastegate to open when the compressor housing has X amount of boost when you really should be telling it to open when the intake manifold has X amount of boost. If you reference the wastegate at the intake manifold, your spring pressure and boost pressure will be much closer.

Also as said above, ditch the LTs, put stock exhaust manifolds on, and wrap everything. It's all been good advice.

I plan on ditching the headers in the future and will be running the wastegate line to the manifold later this week...once I took it on the road and it was under load the spool was better made 2nd gear pulls thru 4th made good boost around 5-7psi in second gear and 3rd/4th saw 9-10psi AFR 10.5-11.0

Does not sound good. Do a compression check.

Smoke out the dipstick tube is no good. Is it a little, or a lot? My smoked out the dipstick like a chimney when the ringlands went...

What do you have for PCV?

Yup.

If you were pushing that little turbo to 10psi in 4th and 5th gears your IATs would have been through the roof.

My initial guess is you chunked a ring land. Might have gotten lucky though, never know.
