rearend mounted turbo

rearend mounted turbo we are looking at a 2002 Camaro ls6 and the turbo is mounted behind the rearend on the left side?? its a t76 does this work or how well does it work. seems like some real long plumbing would effect the turbos ability to function well.
STS turbo is famous for this setup.... most people run a slightly smaller turbo then they would under hood to compensate for lag. The amount of piping back to the engine acts as an intercooler, although you can also ad an intercooler as well. Some people on here have good luck with them, some make their own rear mount setups. I'm not advertising for or against this setup, but it's just another option for forced induction. the other good thing is that since the turbo is after the cat, it SHOULD pass emissions if everything else is kept factory. I'm not sure weather or not its CARB certified, but it is another way to get hp in areas where what is a factor. IE Left Coast California =P

It works alright. You do add alot more points of failure with a rear mount setup ie oil pumps. You have 1 pump that connect up front the engine so it can supply oil to the turbo, then you have a second pump that returns oil to the engine from the turbo.
They are a little more laggy then a front mount but they make good power and dont take up precious space under the hood.
