help with wastegate and BOV choice Im looking for a blow off valve, and wastegate for my 87 Mustang now. Set up and goal. TC78 turbo, 6.0 block, looking for around 700whp through th400 if the turbo will do it. I am on a budget, I was looking at 39mm precision wastegate, since you can get them for 230 new. But will it work well for my application. Or i can get a used tial 44mm for 275. BOV well so many choices?
tial 44 you will pretty much have to have. the 39mm is likely too small to control your boost accurately. plus Tial is much better. as far as the bov get a tial if you can spend it. if not an ebay one works fine. I seee alot of guys run a ebay bov for 15 bucks with little to no compressor surge. you get what you pay for in the end though.
If you never plan on being below 8lbs of boost a 38mm wastegate will work on the tc76-78. I have a 38mm turbo smart on my setup with a tc76 and I can hold 7lbs of boost but if it's cold out it will creep to 10lbs. I recently swapped to a precision 76gts and the 38mm gate will not control boost with my cutout open, it hits 15-16lbs in 3rd gear. I'd recommend the precision 46mm gate, very nice piece with all the springs you will ever need.
