Default Need build opinion with stock stuff for boost!

Have a 5.3 block in the garage that I have completely torn down. Thinking of having it punched out to a 5.7. Plan is to run a front mount turbo setup or a procharger. I would love to make 500hp at least! Now, the question is can it be done....I was thinking of picking up a new set of factory ls1 rods and pistons and running ARP2000 rod bolts. Good idea or bad idea? Only reason being is new factory parts are cheap and I don't want to drop thousand of $$$ into the motor right now.

BTW car will definitely be a DD.

Oh and of course it will get new cam, valve springs, pushrods and all that stuff, just main thing is will stock pistons and rods be reliable for me?

Have the block honed, put new bearings in it, and rod-bolts are great insurance. Now is this going to be a DD vehicle? Every other day car, weekend warrior, or purely strip bruiser?

I ask this because if it's a weekend warrior or a strip bruiser you could probably get away with doing what hot-rod did and re-gap the ring lands to give the piston some more meat before that first ring.

Doing this on stock pistons that were never meant to run that gap though can and probably will use oil. How much is anyone's guess. I'm sure if you asked hot rod if that motor burnt any oil and if it did how much and did they really check to see if it was....

I'd be very interested to know....

500rwhp is easy with a stock ls motor. What you are looking into is great insurance though that it will survive reliably under that power level or even higher one day although I wouldn't lean on it forever.

I daily drive my car now as it is back and forth to work and school. The block will definitely get new everything I just need to find out if running boost on a set of stock pistons/rods (new) will be worth it or should I just wait it out and get some forged stuff? Only thing I'm worried about it is I may regret it later when I want to turn boost up and can't

I ran an Iron 5.7 (bored 5.3) with a procharger. Had it for 4 years and sold it in perfect running condition to a guy who is gonna put an 88 on it.

10 psi netted 550 rwhp on a superflow, unlocked converter. It spent 90% of its life at 14psi and even ran it as high as 23 psi for about 15 passes. No oiling problems, never smoked, only pushed water once at 14 psi cause I stepped over the line on the tune one time.

Was that on the stock ls1 pistons and rods?
