assembling -20an lines help
assembling -20an lines help Im assembling -20 rad lines and i cant get the fittings all the way threaded in, im using a vice and a pipe wrench with a 3ft. Cheater bar, is this typical for the large lines to not thread all the way in or is something wrong

How far in did you push in the braided line? There's a space in the red collar between the threads at the top and the ribs. The hose should come past the last rib. If the hose is jammed in all the way it's almost impossible to thread. Large AN hoses are nightmarish anyway. Find a shop that builds hydraulic line, they have motorized tooling that will run it down correctly.
man that sucks, they never give directions but i push the red part all the way in then twist it back 1/4 inch or so, i use ATF for lube, it should start by hand, then i turn it in with a 24" cresent wrench, till there is an 1/8" between the red and blue part.
Ya i just did the other 90* like so, ive always pushed -8 lines all the way of the step in the red fitting and never had issues, i guess this big **** is another game, maybe jegs will hook me up and exhange me for a new fitting since there was no instructions lol, i think that if the hose was properly sized then it should fit fine with the hose all the way in

Ya lol i didnt think a cheater bar should be neede but the -20 lines are alot harder to.assemble than your typical -8 or 10 fittings.. And i used silicone lube which is way better to use than white lithium grease or something of that sort... So i guess the concensus says to push the hose into thd red fitting up to the last barb so thres approximately a 1/4" between the hose and the threDs on the red fitting? Should this same method be used on the smaller fittings such as -8 as well

Here's a nice how-to on it. In my opinion he has the hose a touch too far in, however I've found it varies between brands of hose and brand of fittings what degree of difficulty you'll have.
I also pull the tape off the hose end after a cut before shoving the end in the ferrule. It makes it a bit easier to get it screwed together.

I have a -20 hose that I only got threaded in about 3/4 of the way, but its on the suction side of the water pump, so I wasn't too concerned.
THis was with lube, but I didn't try backing out the hose a touch as mentioned in here.

I use wd-40, vise, and a lighter. Put the fitting in the vise, take a lighter and heat up the end of the rubber in the fitting without burning it, spray it with wd40 and screw the fitting in fast. I have never had an issue putting them together with this technique. Just use an wrenchs or the correct wrench size. Dont use a cresent....
what are the right size wrenches? You push on the one piece and then screw on the other piece. The biggest thing I have is a 12" crescent wrench and that's not big enough. If they are like all of the other AN fittings, the hex on the part that you use to tighten it to the hose is not the same as what the fitting is, ie -20, it's larger.
I used a monkey wrench that you would use for gas bottles, its like a pipe wrench with no teeth so u wont destroy the fitting, and i locked the red piece in the vice wrapped in a rag, unfortunately it still got nicked.... Jegs sells some special clamps that you use to hold the fitting in the vice that supposedly doesnt scratch them.. Also dont lock the vice up too tight cause you'll squeeze the aluminum fitting and make it harder to thread the fitting together..
And push the hose into the red fitting all the way and then back it out about 1/8" cause it makes it easier to thread in and allows you too get the fitting closer
