Problems with T4 Gt91??? wont make more than 6psi!!

Here's a little update.. I was able to fool around with the boost controller, but at 50% duty cycle, it is finally making 17psi. it seems like everything runs great except for one more issue... first gear is verry laggy and i am only making 1-2psi. shift to second and punch the gas and it makes 15+ no problem. I called AEM to see if it was a controller setting and they said no. I dont have and boost by gear functions on my controller.

any ideas?

okay, same here, 2.5" crossovers, but mine is a T4. so it makes sense that I would have more backpressure than you, which it causing me to run 50% duty cycle to see gate spring pressures.

now i just need to figure out first gear. how much boost do you make in first? (just city driving acceleration)

1st gear just doesn't load the engine enough probably no good way around that except 2 step or NAWZ. You can do some stuff with the tune to make it spool a little bit better though.

its a moser 9" with 3.50 gears and wavetrak diff. i have 305/35/18 Toyo R888's which is a R compound AutoX tire.

I also have a MSD 2 step but that doesnt help driving around in the city. I havent even had time to test out the 2 step anywhere (i live in crowded, cop infested, racetrack depleted, beautiful southern california)

Non sense! Come down this way a bit more often lol. How much power are you and Ryne getting out of her so far? Like Tiago said 1st gear isn't going to load it enough to create a lot of boost....tell Ryne to tune it to make a little more....a little timing usually does well.

yeah well we didnt have time to really tune anything. Maybe your right, a little more timing might help the spoolup. we hit 15psi on the dyno and it made 809rwhp, and that was still pretty much untuned. we ran out of time to do any detailed tuning, so its enough to cruise around and have fun right now.

well it was a few things. there is apparently a lot of backpressure opening the gate early. but searching Ls1tech, i found a lot of people mentioning that issue with Turbosmart. So maybe its not backpressure, but maybe their spring ratings are inaccurate on these bigger LS motors? On top of that, the Boost controller was not set up properly. now it is, and it is making boost finally.

my only final problem is that its not making much boost in first gear on the street. Yes I have a 2 step, but i want to make boost while STREET DRIVING so the 2 step is out of the question on that issue.

Best bet is the tune or gearing/tire for the boost issue. Ryne knows his **** so I'm sure he could set her up to spool a little better. I need to check out your car sometime!

Could you post some pics of your setup? I'd love to see that big GT91 shoe horned in there! As mentioned earlier remove the air filter and see what happens in 1st gear.

I can build 15 psi easy in first till it spins too much then drops down around 12psi. Also i have next to zero lag.

I think you have a vaccum issue.

Unhook that boost referenced line you mentioned you unhooked in an earlier post and made 15psi till you let off the gas and punch it in 1st again and see if it still makes 1-2psi. I dont see why it would only make 1-2psi in first if you guys are saying its a backpressure issue? If it has a backpressure issue and he's making 15psi in 3rd then he should be able to make more than 1-2psi in 1st.
