How much boost? and power goals? I want to say cleand up 317 with springs, Or patriot stg 3 2..08, 1.60 valves should be in the budget. Also tea would get them to flow nice. I push 830 rwhp with patriots on a booty mount turbo lol

I make right around 800rwhp with the Patriot stage 3 LS6 heads. Pretty decent but they have their limit. Their a stock casting head so they have a thinner deck surface.

thanks for chiming in guys! well i am at 5000 ft. (Colorado). i am not sure what the D1 can dishout at this altitude. 14??? i dunno? we will see. the shop building the engine suggested the 317's but he does not have them in stock. i am planning on puchasing them from a sponsor and having them sent to the shop for assembly. but i have heard good things about the partiots heads tho. i and planning on being aroung 750 plus HP. not going to radical on the cam as they bought back emissions a year ago. bastards....

Definitely 317s, you'll be more than happy with them. Even in stock form they are an improvement over 241s.

A little bit more cash will get you a set of TFS 220 "as cast" head. They will flow good with the added benefit of having a thicker deck which would be better for FI than 317's. I think you can pick a set up for between $1600 and $1800. I think it would be worth the extra cash

Why not run an ls3/l76 intake and ls3/l92 heads with ls9 gaskets? Probably be cheaper.

Used trickflows or Afr's for a little more...will be worth it in the end with their thick deck.

My buddy ran these on a nitrous motor. Very nice head for the money. The aftermarket casting is ideal, and these will flow well out of the box, port them or upgrade down the line.

I agree

I was going to go with a set of TEA massaged Trick Flow 220's. After I factored in the price of roller rockers I went with a set of used AFR 225's. .750" deck as opposed to .600" and I can reuse my light stock rockers.

OP, save for an extra week or two. You will be happy you did. I picked mine up for $1800. A set of valve springs and a once over by a machinist is all they needed.

I will echo the above. Find a set of used AFRs or TFSs. Might be a hundred or two more, but WELL worth it in the end.

I will agree they work great, that beast fly's but you would have to get rid of the ls6 intake.

I think PRC/TSP has a stg. 1/2/3 317 head for your price range.

Here ya go

http://www.texas-speed.com/p-1174-pr...ted-heads.aspx

http://www.texas-speed.com/p-1386-pr...ted-heads.aspx

http://www.texas-speed.com/p-1178-pr...ted-heads.aspx

If you were going to spend the coin on the stage 3's I'd go with what everyone else is saying and get the TFS as cast 220's or AFR 225's used.

But those stg 1 and 2.5's really can't be beat for what they will do and the price.

for a FI build Id buy used thick deck Heads before I sent money a cnc or ported stock castings. who cares if they flow a ton if they distort and lift? tfs, afr, etp/mast etc.

I'm just answering the OP's question.

I beleive I said right in the middle of my post that I would go with the As Cast 220's from TFS.

But at 2 grand without springs, retainers, etc. etc. it's going to cost him more than what he was looking to spend when he can get a fully assembled head that flows almost as good for 1k less.

Of course they won't seal AS good, but a 4 bolt head is only going to be as strong as those 4 bolts holding it down. You can polish a turd but it's still a turd. JMO....

I wasn't singling your post out, just trying to give the OP anther thing to consider, but that is wrong a thick deck head will hold longer with same studs. If you look you can get a good deal on used heads. My ETPs cost me $1800 assembled with a BBC dual valve spring set up.

Lifting stock heads wont be a problem until after 800 rwhp. Some have put down 900+. Going down the quarter mile is another story...
