Default 1000ish HP, smallest turbo?
Sold my TC78 to upgrade to something a bit more powerful, however im not looking for a semitruck turbo that is 70lbs and massive with tons of lag. Its going on my 87 Mustang with,

Lq4 block
stock crank
eagle rods
probe pistons (standard bore)
317 heads
custom turbo cam from Race prove motorsports
edelbrock victor jr manifold FI

Can be t4 or t6 since im making the kit.

Trying to stay under 1500 bucks. Obviously doesnt have to be a new turbo. Help me out, only turbos i know anything about is TC78, s85, and pt76gts. I

look at some of Borg Warner's turbos. I just bought one from Work Turbochargers....its an 82mm. it spools good and makes decent power for being a mid-frame.

Id like to see 1000 whp on race gas but understand it may be tough, especially through a TH400. Even saying 850-900 wheel is awesome

for the money s400-8x is going to bet tough to beat. also gt80 or 88 from Forced inductions, maybe used pt88

not trying to hijack the thread but what are the spec's on that 82mm? What size turbine wheel and is it the batmo wheel? It might be right in the range the OP is looking at.

X2 on the Budget GT turbos. I'm running a G76 with the T4 exh housing off my my PT88 that runs pretty close with the PT88. I got it because I'm going to run it on my nova in a 76mm class. If mm isn't a big deal a S480 would be best bang for the buck IMO.

Mm isn't a big deal just not wanting something that takes 4 years to spool. Its a street/strip car. Pump gas most of the time. Also will be running Meth.

Mike we have the 82 and 83mm comp wheels for the Borgs. They flow 126 and 128 respectively with race covers. Both in billet or cast.

Yeah the GT76 is a complete beast for being only a 76mm unit.

80mm cast flows 119 in a race cover.

Zapp it could get you real close even through a TH400. As you can see, stock48 is running one and he is flying with it. Almost as quick as his 88mm he previously had.

Yea it gets all over the pt88 right up to 18psi. At 20-22 the PT88 will prob inch it out but I'll bet a GT80 would for sure match or out power the PT88 which is a proven 1000RWHP turbo.

If you can find a used Garrett GT 47-80 or 88 I think you would be happy. They offer them in T6 and T4 and they will out spool / out power a PT88 all day long.
