Default Thinking of ditching the twins and going KY turbo kit???

well im thinking of selling my APS TT with LG upgrades and buying a KY turbo.
the KY kit is a T6 ST80 kit with a 1.10ar. but i have never messed with a single set up before so i have no idea what spool time is going to be like or anything. my twins hit hard but they are heavy and a pain to work on.

so what im looking for is just your input on the idea.

my engine is a
LS2 402
TFS 225 heads
LS6 intake
my cam is .590 lift and 230 @ .050 116lsa +4 is a ruff figure
4L80 and yank PY3400
3.42 gear

I'd say it depends on your goals for the car. The twins are good and work and I prefer them. But will they get you to where you want to take the car? There is only so much you will be able to do with those turbo's.

Now the T6 would give you room to change if you still wanted more over the 80. Rick (2001-WS6), our club president has a single set-up on his car and has upgraded that turbo a few times. He has been in the single digits with it for a while. You have a trans brake now so you should be able to spool it up on the line. Obviously the lag would be bigger on the street than the twins.

Again, it all comes back to what are your goals for the car? Cruise & enjoy or keep going faster?

GT47-88 maybe

I dont think you will like the big single after having twins, your at 650rwhp now, that is a lot of fun, i can tell you first hand anything over 800 in a streetcar is fun to talk about, not so much fun to drive on the street. Just something to think about.

disagree. with the right boost controller you can put the power to the ground.

If you are wanting a T6 Race setup then KYTP is the WAY TO GO.

We also have an incredibly powerful street twin setup that is more than capable for HUGE power. Our F2 kit makes the APS system look like the dry shot for $50 bucks in the back of the summit catalog LOL.

I agree the st80 will be to small for your 402. I'm sure if you asked josh he would let you upgrade to something bigger! Premier autosports did a formula with a 404 and a s91 that hauled azz. I believe it went 9.0@154 on 12lbs of boost!

and that F2 kit is sick but still has to much going on for me. i try to keep things simple

I say do it and upgrade. Do it once and do it right! Like we were just talking about I say a 47-88 or also as said a S91.

One thing about the ST80 especially in T6 version is that it's a fairly large turbo, so it would not be hard to bolt something else on. Forced Inductions builds a lot of turbochargers that have the same dimensions so you might be able to spec a turbo with the same physcial dimenstions so that no piping changes are needed.

We have a s85 on a 408,4l80 tranny setup. With a 3200 stall we can brake boost 10lbs and it runs daily at 800/800 on 15lbs. Spools pretty quickly.

The ST80 is a good unit. A little small for the cubes you have though. Who are you getting this setup from? I am assuming you found a used setup, correct?

I like twins for the street but for more race oriented stuff I guess a big single would be fine too.
The lgs spool up very quick, maybe too quick on the 427 would imagine bit slower on your 402.

Hitting mid to high 9s should be easy but sounds like you are starting to want to go super fast low 9s ,8s?

There is something to be said for keeping things simple, the APS kit is not that fun to work on sometimes. We both know that.

I still may sell my car sooner or later and go to more stock type cars like my z06. There is something to be said for having a near stock car but still something pretty quick. Course a stock z06 is not that quick compared to a tt car like yours or mine.Still maybe mellowing out in my old age. You on the other hand..LOL

Maybe you should be building a more totally track type car. A cheap f body or whatever, gutted down, like my race talon track only car. Its always a compromise when you want a stupid fast track car to keep it streetable.
Obviously you are going to be getting full cage for anything under 10.0. And have to do all that sfi stuff, medical stuff to keep tracking at NHRA tracks.

Big pain in the butt from talking to my hardcore racer buddies. Thats one reason went with more reasonable goals ,my talon won't run quicker than 10.0 or slow it down. My 99TT always said would be happy as heck with times you have got with your car a 9.99 then retire it from track most likely and just street it.

But its getting really bad these days with having much fun on the street too as speeding is now worse than babykilling thanks to maybe the ricers and fast and furious movies!
Where I live going only 24mph over limit can get car temp impounded, big fines, maybe even jail. I need to move to some small country with no speed limits or really low fines.

Getting so only fun you can have is racing on video games.
Sorry rambling Tom old buddy.
I guess you need to maybe ride in some single turbo cars and see how you like them.

And see if you can deal with the lag characteristics. There are options though to help spool up. HTA housings for one. and you can do what many do with big turbos especially in the import scene with small engines. Just run a small shot of spray 50 to 100 shot and you can spool up pretty much anything instantly if you want to but lag can be a good thing sometimes too.

And of course you can play with gears, stall speeds, boost ramping, etc.etc And bigger cubes of course can reduce spool time too not sure how much compression ratio makes a difference. Heard various opinions on compression ratio and spool up.
