Default 4032 good for 15psi?

Dropping block tomorrow for boring and need to make my decision.
I am leaning towards 4032 b/c of the good wear the motors with them have.
I am going push 15psi occasionally at the track, maybe 20 to 30 passes a year and maybe some street runs against the occasional GTR or ZR1. I run E85 on my current set up on 11:1 CR on 10psi with no issues on stock LS2. Want to go up to 14.7 psi so experienced input is welcome. Thanks

This is not always true it depends on the design of the piston, and the tune. I run 4032 in all my builds with no problems. You want to avoid the extra lightweight pistons, and the large dish pistons where the dish gets into the back of the ring land; they are weak there.

The aluminum alloy. 2618 is softer so it's more crack resistant, but wears and expands more. 4032 is harder, and more wear resistant but more brittle; it won't take as much abuse. Kinda like comparing glass to plexiglass. The right 4032 piston can be pretty tough.

I see so many stock pistons holding up to 600whp these days with good fuel and tune that the 4032 should work fine at that level.

I would spend extra money and go with 2618 alloy.
I had mahle 4032 and i had piston failure ring land broke at 6 psi, changed to 2618 and no problem,i didn't have the best tuner at the time.
Ring land is .250'' on 4032 mahle and .300'' on 2618 mahle

I gotta hykack for a minute. Why are so many of these shelf pistons made without a quench pad? I may be missing something but WTF?

A std bottom end can be a crap shoot,
I just witnessed one let go at 10 psi, only 6 deg timing, 10.8 afr, good coolant and intake temps, no det/knock and was only in boost for a couple of seconds.....

My own car survived a couple of yrs at 12 psi without any issues..

Unless the engine had a pre-existing condition any ls engine should hold up under 600 crank hp or so if the person incharge of the build doesnt make any mistakes. The motor your referencing above had to have something wrong(faulty injector, bad fuel, ect.).

I'm using Autotec and have designed a couple HD 4032 pistons for boost. They have a thicker deck, top ring down .300'', thicker ring lands, and .180'' wall pin. You can PM me for more info if you like...

It's the design of that piston not the material that made it break. Notice how the dish doesn't cut into the back of the ring land as much on the new piston? That dish on the broken piston weakens the ring lands that's why it's broke.

Piston below is the Autotec I have been using.
