Default Looking for some forced induction advise..

Looking for some advise on throwing a procharger (also open to other options) on a 2000 Trans Am/Ls1 . Would love to hear any and all advise , especially from those who have gone this route .

First bit of advice is to get prepared to spend some money, cause it aint cheap no matter which route you decide. personally I would go turbo, but its,up to you. I wpold tell you this, There are a whole lot more folks who have problems with the STS rear mount turbo systems then there are people wgo are happy with them,,I would steer clear of the STS system.

I second the front mount turbo setup over all, but keep this in mind. People say you can do it cheap and have a turbo setup for 3-4k, but I doubt they are considering all the supporting crap you need to make it worth a damn, such as the drivetrain, valvetrain, suspension, and fueling setup.. I'm going to assume your car is pretty stock. Well you can go two routes, the immediate cost effective "break/fix route", or the more expensive up front "supporting mods but can be driven hard" route. I'd suggest the later of the two, but that might not fit into your budget. In the FI section there is a sticky called the true cost of FI. Read that. Also going front mount turbo takes a considerable more amount of time and fabrication(hidden costs there too) than going with a procharger.

I apprichiate the input , i was looking into the sts system actually and what your telling me is exactly what i have been hearing . I have some cash to play around with so im deffinately going to go with the qualitiy/doing-it-right route instead of wasting my funds . As far as my car goes , the suspension work has been done but nothing else besides that . Im going to be honest with you guys in saying that i am clearly a noob , but im not trying to make noob mistakes . Mind if i pick your brains ? :p

If you decide to turbocharge it. I can help you.
We have turbo setups that are very affordable.

Buy a larger turbo and set of injectors than you think you will want. You can always turn a turbo down, but you can't really push them much past what they are good for.

i would figure out the route you wanna take, pro charger or turbo, i have always been a big fan of prochargers, imo there just easier, but you cant beat the power of a turbo.

What are you wanting to do with the car? Looking into maybe adding more cubes to the engine later? Certain power goal you're after?

I love my D1.

I'm on a stock 10-bolt with 4.10s and I just upgraded the clutch to a diamond stage 2. So far so good. I don't launch the car but I get on it quite a bit. 4.10s have been in there for months now. Have had the procharger for about 1.5 months. Mines a street car only. if ur building a street car I'd say procharger. Less maintenance I would think. But I'm bias :p

D1 or F1A depending on your ultimate goals. they most likely will include looking for a lot more power than you think youll ever want right now so just get the F1A! LOL Give Bob a shout at Brute Speed, you wont find a nicer or more trustworthy guy to do buisiness with IMO.

Granted I have an RX-7, but the drivetrain is the same as you... here's my "forced induction" adventure... started out with a $3-4k budget.

Removed LS1/T56 combo, planned for a forged 370ci motor with a TH400 and a TC76 turbo
Figured since I was doing it, I might as well upgrade the rear end. Was going to go the cheap route but instead ended up putting in a $4500 rear end.
Started buying supporting mods. Spent $2,000 in one sitting and all that ended up being is some gauges, fuel pump, intercooler, piping, etc.
Decided to focus on safety a bit (even though it's a street car, spent $500 on a 4 point.
Decided to do -6 stainless feed and return... $400.
And now I have blown my $3,000 budget out of the water and I haven't even touched the motor or bought injectors. Ended up deciding to run a stock shortblock 5.3L but that's still going to cost $1,500 to "build" (cam, springs, pushrods, etc.)

FWIW i started with a D1 (from Bob) years ago on a stock motor, than built a 346 with the D1, then did a 408 with a F1A and now im redoing the 408 and upgrading again to the f1C
