Alternator on the Ac place?
Alternator on the Ac place? Would it be possible to use a small alternator on the ac location? Or will it not work with truck manifolds in a single turbo build?

Ok I'll bite.
When truck manifolds are used there's no room under either manifold.
If you are putting the motor in a 4th gen and have up swept headers you can
put the alternator in the stock location.
Down swept heads take up the room on both sides so it has to go up top.
The only application that I could see a reason for putting it in that spot
would be is a LS in a older car or truck with a steering box in the way.
You guys tell me your thoughts on what you had in mind and why.

Exactly as Chris said, if the alternator worked in that position with truck manifolds people would keep their ac! Check out this build thread they have their alternator mounted there but they had to run a really small alternator. https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-raci...ld-thread.html AEI CNC makes this setup.
doh! mine is still in the shortblock stage so i didn't realize the pass side swept down the quickly but was hoping there was more room for an alt than for an a/c comp. thanks for the replies! still going high mount i guess.
was'll post up a build thread in a week or two to show you guys how I did mine. I have a truck manifold kit with a GM alternater mounted pretty much in the stock location... I made brackets for RickysS/Cz28's car that put his where the A/C was.
I have more room with mine on the drivers side than his did on the passenger side. I will go ahead and tell you that to mount it on the drivers side you have to build the hot side a certain way... Nothing crazy, you just have to angle the pipe to the outside as soon as it comes off the manifold.

Here are some more pics!! The reason on the low mount is he didnt want A/C and we are using the PTK kit(which turbo goes in the stock alt location). The only thing i did see is the alt. pulley didnt line up perfect with the crank pulley(cant see unless you lay under the car looking up). It puts tension on one side of the belt which technically should cause pre-mature belt wear. It DOES however stay on all the way up the RPM band. Its a great kit IMO
