Question 5.3 turbo cam help

Im in process of starting a 5.3 turbo build. Will be running truck manifolds front mount turbo ( Turbonetics 78/68 .96Ar ball bearing with billet compressor wheel). Arp head studs and Katech rod bolts other wise stock engine. Th400 with 3000 stall (Jakes Performance) with 2.73s in 1996 Mustang GT. The weight of the car should be round 3600lbs when together. My question is cam selection. Called Comp Cams and they recommended 226/228 duration 585/588 on 115 lobe which would be a custom grind. They said it should start spooling at 2000 and full boost at 6000 (15lbs boost) Looking to Get 800rwhp. Is this cam in the ball park for my goals. Any recommendations

You just got an answer from a company that makes camshafts. What makes you think they would steer you wrong? While getting opinions of random dudes on the internet is somehow better?

A ton of people go with the LS6 (Z06) stock cam. Seems to work wonders with boost and you get stock sound and driveability. I've heard a cammed turbo car is a bit harder to tune as well, but I guess if you want the lope and sound, comp cams should know there stuff. Through my research, I've found that you really don't need a crazy cam on a turbo car to make power. I see dyno charts all over the place...some cammed cars make less power than a similiarly set up car with a stock cam. It's really in the tune and how efficient you built your set up. Good luck.

I think that cam will be good. I ran a LS6 in a 6.0 but just hated the smooth idle. Now Im putting a 224/228 550 lift Comp in a 5.3 with a 76. Gotta have a little lope!

That 800rwhp is very optimistic with that turbo, small cubes, and a T400. Good luck though.

Sometimes companies put people on the phone because they cant do anything else.
I would guess this forum has more of an idea what works in a turbo LS engine than everyone at comp cams combined.
