Default Crazy Idea for the STS

I don't know that much about the almighty turbo, but from the pics of the STS remote mounted thing, It looks like the Turbo replaces the muffler or something like that. Now, what if someone had an electric cutout between the headers and the turbo? Would that mean that when the cutout is open the car is basically "normal"? and then when the cutout is closed, the car is a turbo beast? that could be pretty neat! you could easily hide the sound of the turbo, because it would not be functioning! approach the line and close up the cutout! I am a god damn genius!

(It's late, I know nothing about forced induction, does this make any sense at all?)

mmmm, that'd be kind of pointless I would think, expecially since your car is going to have all kinds of trouble getting air in and idling.

Sucking through a stationary turbo isn't my idea of a nice daily driver. I'd imagine that setup is pretty quiet anyway until it spools.

With a 3 ft piece of pipe off the exhaust housing i`d bet that that thing whistles even while idling. But i agree if the turbo ain`t spining it might not idle very well and certainly won`t have much power with that much of a intake restriction. You could use two cut outs one on the intake with a seperate filter on the cutout and one after the Y-pipe then wire them both to one switch, but you might as well just go with nitrous if you only want the power occasionally.

true true. if you dont want the power you could also just he boost to zero. and about the intake cutout, there is a big possibility for a boost leak through the cutout. and a "cutout" on the exhaust side before the turbo is usually called a "wastegate". setting your boost to zero would open it automatically.

Just being stupid, but what if you had a turbo 'bypass', where the cutout would redirect the air around the turbo and back in after it? I just felt like writing...lol
That would probably diminish flow greatly. Oh well...lol

The cut out would be pointless. My shop sells and installs the STS turbo kits and I have one on my '02 Formula. You never hear the turbo unless you drive a little hard. You can hear it when you get on it and you hear the blow off valve ( no import valve).
The kit has been great so far; better mileage, 412/451 even before a tune at 5psi and the car is bone stock except for LS-6 springs.

Hope you can get a lot more out of it than that with a tune!

Be sure to post the results up.

yeah that's pretty good for a untuned turbo placed anywhere. very similar to the Turbotech untuned numbers really.

After I get tuned and dyno'd again, I will post up the dyno sheet. The car does carry over 400ft lbs from about 3200 past 5000. Z98 is right, I'm making over 400 hp on a
basically stock motor at just 5psi, the car drives like its completely stock unless you put your foot in it, it gets better mileage, and the kit is $3700.00 and I can install them in about 5 hours. Other kits are $6-8k and require 20 hours of labor.
