Default Random turbo questions.. help please

I just have some random turbo questions that I have been trying to search around and find. Im now thinking about a 408 LQ9 with the pt88 turbo. So my random questions are. would the pt88 be a good turbo for this motor? I will be trying to hit 800rwhp. Any other recomendations? Also, what heads would be best. I have a set of 243's and 317's right now, so which would be better for my build. Im thinking the 408 will be from Texas-speed so it should be strong.

Im going to be using stainless works turbo headers to try and keep all of my accessories in the same spot. Will I have enough room to run a 4" downpipe through the factory k-member?

No on 408
No on TSP 408
No on PT88 on 408

I'd recommend a motor from AES which is much closer to you.

search button is your friend
stock 6.0 crank w/317's 15 psi and PT88 will get you 9's easy.

I have been searching... which is why I said I was searching. The search on this forum is rather annoying.

So the 390 and pt88 is good and 408 w/ pt88 is bad. But the pt88 turbo is good right?

Asking again... Which set of heads would be better on a turbo build 317's or the 243's?

6.0 & PT88 & 317's.

Turbine size is the issue

PT88 Turbine is too small for a bigger motor unless you don't plan on more than 12-15psi. It also has the older 88mm wheel and smaller compressor housing.
PT88 runs out on a 370 around 20psi.

Check out the S88 link I posted for a simple 6.0 317 build.
Check out this for one of the best PT88 builds.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...olds-pt88.html

Really depends on what you want????
Quick spool- 76GTS on 3.9 bore 5.3 or 5.7 - has gone low 9's with work.
For 6.0
Little more power- 80mm with next turbine up from S wheel. - easy 9 second build with better spool than 88mm.
Little more, PT88 -takes some work to get to 8.99. Easier to drive on street than GTS and 150 -200 hp more at 18psi than GTS.....
Little more GT4788 or GT88 - easy low 9's or high 8's.

For 6.0 or 390
Little more- GT88 with 97mm turbine or S88 w/96mm. Easy 8 second power in heavy car.

For for the racer, the 4788 on a 350 in a 3000lb car will do 8.5's. It has a 93mm turbine.

WOW that was alot of info. Im pretty new to this turbo thing so im still trying to figure it all out. Im now leaning towards the 390 from AES with my 317 heads on it. It will be mostly street driven and see a track everynow and then. im really shooting for a fast street car, so quick spool would be great. So you're thinking the GT88 or S88 would be best for this?

Hey man your in the same boat most guys get into. Some things you need to consider is are you going to have the money to spend and what your goals are. When you say 800rwhp and a fast street car, your kinda comparing apples to watermelons. Don't get me wrong 800 rwhp would be fast as f$$$ but your going to need to hook. I've seen that 800+ car get beat on the street by some 518 rwhp car simply because the race wasn't half a mile long and turbo guy did a cool 1/8 mile burnout and yes he had suspension work and some 555s-which probably was his problem but you have the idea.

yeah, I have my build mostly in my head. This car wont be raced on the street, just be driven alot on the street. Im not going ***** out money wise but im willing to spend what I have to for reliability. I was just seeing what people recommend but now im seeing there are WAY to many turbo options ha.
My big thing was is that my car is put away in storage so i cant go measure stuff, so I am trying to get my winter build setup for the spring. I dont want this to be a year long project so Im trying to set everything up so in the spring i can dig in!!!

Well I have looked into FI for a few years now and all I can say is you need to be readu to spend! If anyone tells you other wise they are damn wrong Once you figure out what goals you have then start searching some options. Ls1curt has a build thread out there that will open your eyes to what a ls1 can do. IMO I would do something where you have drivability and dont have to mess with it everytime you drive it, or have to worry about over heating when you do drive it. Just look around man the options are out there. and dont count out superchargers either

Now that you've sort of said what you want....

347 w/ported 241's with a 76HPS/GTS meets your goals. - follow NicD's build - it does bottom 9's.
That's a 76 mm compressor with a bigger housing, not the little TC housing and it has the 75mm turbine, not the 68mm TC turbine.

For a 370, I'd go with the PT80H or PT88H T4 setup. Follow the link I posted earlier for the build.

Much bigger than PT88 and guys have to do a lot more work to get the turbo to fit in a 4th gen.

For a 390- I'd go with the GT88.

Just bore a 5.3 out to 3.9 to save money or rebuild your LS1 if you don't mind the extra down time.

Stock heads will be your reliability weak link. A 347 with a PT80H is another alternative.
