Mine sits just like the pic posted, low enough that I can't put the plastic guard back on without modifying it, but high enough to stay out of the way. Mine doesn't distort my bumper either.

I'll try and snag a pic tonight when I get home.

i'll try to push it further down but as far as i know its the supplied filter, my kit was used so it may not actually be the case
