Default Open downpipe questions... who's running one?

I've got my winter turbo project completed. I'm running a true PTK kit and besides a few modifications here and there I have no complaints. However, I just fired the car up with the new tune a few nights ago and the car just seems incredibly quiet to me. I was running long tubes and a Y pipe though my SLP dual dual before the turbo and I like the sound and it was not obnoxiously loud but now with the same dual dual and the PTK setup the car just seems too quiet to me.

My question is who is running an open downpipe and how loud is it? I've heard mixed reviews. I drive my car summers only and only on nice days. I like my cars to be loud and want the V8 rumble but I also do not want it to be downright obnoxious. Any input or videos would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ahead!

I run a 4 inch dump with a vortex insert. It sounds great and honestly isn't too loud. In a 6 speed car I can cruise down the highway and talk to my passenger.

My buddy Kurt's TBSS. 4" aluminum downpipes. It's pretty loud in person. But nothing unbearable.

OP, I'm the exact opposite. I like my cars quiet and unassuming. I ran an open DP that dumped right under the pedals. It was ok for me, but after a while the drone would bother me. My brother in law being a pipe fitter ran my dp into my catback with an electric cutout. I think it came out great, but it's almost more quiet than stock. I can open the cutout as it's an electric DMH. Here are some pics. quiet when I want it, open and free flowing for when I need it.

You would be suprised how much heat the turbo takes out of the exhaust

This, when I pulled my hotside out which is coated with swaintech coating you could tell that the headers were the hottest, followed by the crossover, and then the dp due to the discoloration from the heat.

Thanks for all the info guys. I think i'm going to unhook my exhaust this weekend and see just how loud the car is. I'm perfectly fine with loud but just do not want obnoxious or annoying.

I run a cutout also and have a flowmaster 40 series. It sounds great and isn't to loud. When I want to beat on it I press the button in the car for 5 secs and open it up. Best of both worlds

I pulled my mid pipe off the car today and fired it up. I have to say it's honestly not much louder at idle or reving than my old long tubes setup was. I need to see how loud it is cruising and on the highway because I do plan to drive the car to and from work on nice days all summer but right now i'm loving the sound and think this might be the direction I want to go in

Electric cutout FTMFW, I just had mine wired up yesterday on my 3" downpipe. I also run a single magnaflow straight through full size muffler with a turndown at the rear axle. With it closed the car is more quiet then a bone stock 03 cobra, with it open it has a very nice sound thats pretty loud. I wouldnt have it any other way.

I had the ebay kit and left it with the open downpipe. Mine was almost as loud as the tsp true duals I had on it. At idle it's not as loud as you would think, but once you got on it, it was pretty loud.
