Question Newbie, Supercharging help!

I'm thinking about supercharging a LS1 Firehawk. Good idea or bad idea? I've had some people tell me this is a bad idea because of the LS1 being such a high compression motor. Please help me!!

What can i expect to pay for everything besides the supercharger? (i.e. all the fuel stuff etc)

help!! I need lots of info!

oh, one more thing....how much power can i expect to get, running at around 10psi? (assuming this is safe for a totally stock ls1???)

How long will my clutch last to this? Should I plan on replacing that right away also?

I think that 6-7k for an extra 160hp is a little much don't you think? Thats an awful lot of money

Figure you make about 300rwhp with a lid.

With a blower and headers you could be at 500rwhp.

That's a big gain.

I'd get a 9psi Vortech kit with the aftercooler. Figure $5500.

John, why do you recommend Vortech over the ATI? I see that you run a large Vortech, but I wouldnt think that has much to do with your bias toward the 9psi kit vs the D1. What does one have going for it that the other dosent? Do you have experience with both? Thanks. Your opinion is apreciated.

I know of like 7-8 cars with the Vortech kit that make consistent power without any problems with belt tension. And you don't have to remove the Vortech blower to change belts.

Hey John,
I wasn't planning on getting the D1, I was recommended to get the P1, its a little bit smaller I think, up to 8psi. Where did you see the figure for $5,500 for the Vortech? On their webiste the LS1 kit is $7,000.

I don't plan on getting headers, at least not yet, so for ~160hp, $6,000 seems pretty steap

I see, thank you. I too cannot find the 9lb kit for near that price ($5500). A non-sponsor sells the D1 kit for $5100 though. I looked on Tbyrne's site recently and it looks as if they dont even sell the 9lb Vortech kit anymore.

Or, is the H.O. kit the 9lb? If so they sell for closer to $6500. Dang, supercharging is expensive.

Hey John, No i haven't shoped around yet, only one place, and then Vortech's website. $7,000 on the Vortech website, and quoted $6,000 for the ATI, that includes the injectors, fuel pump and tuner.

But I can't imagine that I'm going to find another ATI kit for a lot less.

I would buy the Vortech kit but not directly from Vortech but from a shop that carries them.

P1 seems like it works pretty good.
