Made some progress this past weekend. I installed the 317 heads, 60# Injectors, and 2 bar MAP sensor along with some other things. Here are pictures of my progress:

There has been a lot of discussion lately about the importance of the rear steam vents and coolant crossover tubes. Since I still had my LS1 crossover tube from years ago I decided that now was a good time to install it. The only downside is you need to grind down the ribs on the bottom of the LS6 intake in order for it to fit but that’s a small price to pay for potential benefit.

At this point I decided to get the car running NA with the new heads, cam, and injectors before installing the turbo. This will enable me to dial in most of the VE table in the non-boost regions and work out any bugs I might have when converting to speed density and loading the new injector data. I figure it will only take a few extra hours to re-install the airbox, radiator, stock exhaust, etc to get the car running again and it could potentially save me a lot of headaches down the road.

I also installed the first piece of my Huron Speed turbo kit…the MAF delete (although it’s only temporary)

Here’s how the engine currently sits. I had to order new pushrods because my old ones were too long. Once they arrive I will install the rockers, valve covers, coil packs, etc, etc and get the car running soon.

You made some quick progress there Dave, very nice! MAF delete looks nice in there for the time being!

The new pushrods were waiting for me when I got home on Thursday and my company was closed for Good Friday so I made some good progress this weekend. On Friday I double checked the length and installed the pushrods, installed spark plugs, coil packs, oil catch can, exhaust, and added oil and coolant.

Saturday morning I spent some quality time with HPtuners to write my new base tune. I used stock Z06 VE and timing tables to match my Z06 cam and LS6 intake, used the Banish injector data for my injectors, and I converted to the 2 Bar Speed Density operating system. After that I performed a “write entire”, double checked everything under the hood, and turned the key.

The Good: It fired right up and found stoich on my wideband very quickly.

The Bad: There was a loud hissing sound and the idle was high...sure sign of a vacuum leak. After feeling around for awhile my hand found the back of the intake manifold and located the source of the leak…it was where my MAP sensor connects to the intake. I was able to change the hissing and idle by pushing on the MAP sensor.

My new 2 Bar MAP didn’t come with a new seal so I used the old dried out one and didn’t give it a second thought at the time. A quick internet search turned up GM p/n 16194007 so I placed one on order Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately I will need to remove the intake again and wait for shipping but luckily it doesn’t appear to be a major issue.

On Sunday, after all the Easter festivities were over, I took it for a short, easy drive around the block. The first reason was so that I could check the functionality of my new MAP sensor and secondly so I could get another heat cycle on my valve springs. With key on / engine off my MAP sensor reads 0 kPa instead of 101 kPa like my 1 Bar MAP did. With the car running at idle it read around 40-45 kPa (like expected) and seemed to react correctly during my short drive. After verifying the fueling was close I went WOT briefly and the MAP went to 100 kPa just like it should. I’m not sure why it reads differently with the key on / engine off but it seems to work fine when the car is running…anyone have any insight?

It’s very weird driving the car with the Z06 cam and stock exhaust compared to my old Pat G cam with long tubes and cutout. The car is very quiet and smooth (other than the Detroit locker going around corners). I will post a before and after idle video once I get the new MAP sensor seal installed.

This week I’ve been struggling with my new 2 bar MAP sensor and the 2 bar operating system. When the key is on and the engine is not running the MAP sensor reads 0 kPa instead of 101 kPa like it should (or like the 1 bar sensor did). I posted the following thread on the HPtuners forum and after some more searching on my part it appears that this is “normal” for some genIII computers with the 2 bar OS. Hopefully this will help anyone else who is having the same issue…

For those asking about the installed hotside on the huron kit. I've got my manifolds installed and merge pipe tightened up. I haven't clocked the turbo yet, but it fits on there great with plenty of room.

I also had to r&r my heads b/c I had a noisy lifter.

I don't want to steal the thunder from the OP, but I though I could add a couple pics of the hotside for you guys that were asking.

Looks nice Dave! Are you just going to modify that to mount the intercooler?

Jon, my plan is to modify the brackets that came with your kit to work with the bumper support. So far it looks like they will work well together

looks like we should be done about the same time. What fuel system are you planning on using/what fuel are you going to run?

For now I'm planning to run 93 octane with the stock lines and Siemens 60# injectors. I realize that my fuel will limit my potential power but so does my stock longblock.

I'm running e-85. I've got a stock ls6 (from a zo6) in my car w/ the EPP cam. I can't wait to see what kind of power we both make. Similar set-ups, running 2 different fuels.

I'm sure you will make quite a bit more than me with e85 and the EPP cam

What turbo are you running? How much boost?

I'm running the 76 that I bought with the kit. It is identical to the master power I put on another camaro.

I'm gonna tune it at 15 lbs and see how everything acts. If it seems solid, then may step her up to 20lbs.

Today was a good day...

Fixed my vacuum leak, ordered my turbo, and was able to trial fit my intercooler and Burkhart bumper support together. They fit together fine but the piping doesn't quite clear. It's very close...

I was able to force the coupling to fit but it's not a good long term solution.

The upper bracket cannot be lowered because the bumper support is in the way so I'm thinking that I will use a spacer up top and re-drill the lower bracket and everything will be fine That can wait until I am ready to mount it on the car.
