If you were to take an actual "turbo cam" and swap it into your setup, and retune, then you will probably make more power. Saying the LS9 cam is good because you use it and it makes XXX hp means absolutely nothing.
Not denying that there are other cams that will make more power. In fact, I said the same thing. But whether or not they will pass smog, have a good "stock like" idle, be fuel efficient, and have better torque @1750 rpm than the LS9 cam is the question.

What "actual Turbo Cam" are you referring to above that would do better, in your opinion?

So what kind of evidence (other than real world data from people who have used the cam and dynoed their car) are you looking for to convince you of what is a good cam to go with?

And what cam have you decided to go with?

Just curious.

I am running a cam from baker engineering and a precision 6766 on my 5.3. We are in the tuning stage right now but it put down 503hp and 520tq on a pull that only went to 5100 rpm due to boost creep. It was on about 12lbs of boost. cam is not over the top in lope, but it sounds pretty awesome on a 4 inch exhaust . Should make close to 600 at the same boost level on a full pull. You might send them an email.

I think the cam is a 226/224 on a 114+4

I'm with denmah...the ls9 cam has been used with great results, sure a 400 cam might get you 20 more hp, but for the 300 bucks I saved ill just run one more lb of boost and have change left over for another motor.

Apparently that doesn't matter. Because, "Saying the LS9 cam is good because you use it and it makes XXX hp means absolutely nothing."

Maybe if Tupac was rollin wit one, it might make a diffference. lol.

I'm out.

Good luck OP with whatever you decide to go with. I'm sure it'll all be good.

I recommend the LS9 Cam Swap. Factory in Supercharged Corvettes.
(But it's a 3 bolt cam... you may have to swap out a few things...

"The LS9 camshaft is a 3 bolt design and will use a 3 bolt cam conversion kit if you are installing it in a single bolt application like the 2007 – 2010 LS2 or LS3. If you are installing it in an earlier LS1 or LS6 engine with the cam sensor at the back of the engine you will need a 2005 LS2 front cover, 2005 1x cam sprocket, camshaft extension harness, 2005 LS2 chain dampner. Specs are: (211/230 .558/.552 122.5 LSA)

I put down 551 rwhp @10psi boost on an otherwise stock LS1 engine. Stock exhaust manifolds and stock catalytic converters / y pipe.

Purrs like a kitten too. Can't tell it has a cam swap.

Good Luck.
whatpushrods are valve springs are you using??

The speed inc,TU0 (216/216 114lsa) would be a good cam to go with, or you could go with one of the older Comp Cams grind like the Xtreme RPM High Lift 212/218(.558/.563 lift) 115 LSA, #54-424-11, or the Xtreme RPM 216/220(.525/.532 lift) 114LSA, #54-414-11
All of these cams have at least -10*and up to -14* of valve overlap.
Anyone of these would be a nice step up from the Z06 cam, and still pass smog.

OR,.. you could buy my NIB 224(.609")/224(.600") 114lsa +3 cam with xfi lobes...

Hey just as an FYI....I live in CA and have the same smog issue.
Although its not preferred I'm planning on a pre-76 chassis...no smog required.

But I talked the guy who does all my smog certs (I buy too many cars) and while any car that is not factory equipped with a turbo will fail the visual (thats why you said the turbo comes off), he said to......

Get a CARB sticker that comes with any approved after market assembly and slap it on one of the tubes. He said nobody checks....ever.....and he would pass that. As long as the engine was from the same "family" of engines....LS

The sniffer is just tuning. I've had bored and stroked, monster cam Z06s that have passed that......but one O2 sensor issue and it'll fail.

So I would try that route and if it didn't work, then rip off the turbo gear.
