Default 900+RWHP Recipe

Seems the generic recipe for 900+RWHP is a 6.0L, forged pistons, upgraded rods, cam and a turbo like the S480 or equivalent. However, I have a couple of questions:

- Just about everything one I see has swapped out the truck intake and wondered if this is because of the appearance or hood clearance? Don't think it's performance since I read about a 4800# truck making 900-1000 with the truck manifold.

- Anyone using custom fuel rails on a truck manifold?

- Can a 5.3L make that kind of power with E85 w/o being overstressed?

- Any difference between 5.3L heads and 317s besides the chamber volume? Valves and ports the same size? If so, could you not get custom pistons to achieve the desirable c.r.?

Appreciate any feedback.

the truck intake is made to make power down low, the car intakes flow better at higher rpms.

you will over stress any engine at 900rwhp....
the ports are different from the 5.3 to the 317's, the 5.3's ports are like the 213's (5.7's) the 317's are like the ls6 ports.

Thanks for the reply. Exactly the answers I was looking for. I know the FAST and LS6 are optimum, but will an LS1 intake work also?

The 5.3 can do it too. The 05-up 799 heads on the 5.3 are pretty much LS6 heads minus the sodium valves. Yes, Wiseco has pistons or you can get custom. You will loose a little power using the LS1 intake but it has been done.

Can you clarify the last statement, please. Do you mean the LS1 intake will lose power compared to the LS6 intake or lose power compared to the truck intake?

tks

I think he meant that the ls1 will lose power compared to a ls6 manifold. The truck manifold will probably make less than both?

Actually I have read that the Truck Intake Manifold flows similar to the LS6.

If you have the truck water pump and it's a swap, use the truck intake... if you have F-body accessories, run the LS6.

Or if your a cheap *** like me but want an intake that looks decent use the LS1, it wont loose much power over either. My 5.3 made 824fwhp last week with one, prob turn it up more in the next couple months.

Just don't mess with the rear steam port and any of them are fine

No, the steam ports come off the head in the front and rear corners. Most say they need to be vented to the highest point in the cooling system to relieve any air bubbles in the cooling system. It may contribute to the dreaded LS #7 failure.
