do you purposely put everything together half *** to see what you can get away with before you blow **** up? doesn't make too much sense to me

to me, half ***, and spending the time to tq them all down with a tq wrench yeilds the same result.

why take the time to use the tq wrench.

when and if i knock a ringland out of this motor i doubt it will be because of the impact gun, more than likely way too much hp and or timing for the piston to handle is what i will suspect, so i dont see the point in "doing it right" matter of fact i dont see using the impact gun as "doing it wrong"

just like i dont see whats wrong with speeding on the highway everyday.

i spent majority of my time first learning about cars doing everything "correctly" and having **** break anyway. i figure i am doing pretty good my own way now.

and i certainly mean no offence to the people "doing it right"

hope you understand.

i definately understand your philosophy, but there's some things that just aren't worth overlooking... when you're talking about saving yourself 10mins of time, or $30. haha. badass build none the less. that car is def a street animal.

Have you guys tried pushing the truck cam, if so , How far. I just read the FearMont thread on TTF.

I think I want to do the ZR-1 cam but its appx $250 for the cam and install pieces. I cant find any of the swap pieces around here cheap/free.

If the truck cam falls hard at 5500 Ill have to suck it up and do the cam. I want to spin it up to 6800-7000 on my Junkyard build that I decided on after reading about the FearMont !

Ill also be using stock engine management so what do I need to do to get the front read 58X cam sensor to read correct on the 24x PCM. I think I saw where you posted to swap the outer 2 wires on the sensor ??

if you have a 24x engine, you need the 1x cam gear
58x engine needs the 4x cam gear, but should be front read from the factory.

you do have to move the wires to the front cover, and swap the outside wires.

we are going to be pushing the stock cam on the sunbird we built, 4.8l
we did made 500whp with that engine and the stock cam thru a th350

the ls6 z06 cam is a drop in and works very well on 4.8 and 5.3 motors i might even try it in a 6.0 some day.

and it goes for 200-250 used and do not pop up very often.

The ZR-1 Cam is $98 new

Just have to use the front read cam sensor.

I would prefer to have the Z06 cam for a reasonable price but if the price is the same id have to go with the ZR-1

Cool- thanks for the response- I knew about teh cam gear from reading about your hard start issues when you had the wrong cam gear in there.

I just want it to pull to 6800-7000, didn't know how bad the stock truck cam will hurt the RPM.

Where you from? I'm about half an hour from maple grove, and I've been thinking about ditching the lt1 for a turboed 5.3!
