Default Engine Damage at 16PSI

Had the car on the dyno and maybe 200 miles of driving and this is the damage that was done. The car is a 2010 Camaro with a built 416ci 9.28cr engine. It made 750rwhp/800tq once but then the next pull it dropped down about 200hp so the dyno session was called off.

I pulled the plugs out and the #7 cylinder plug was missing the tip of the ground strap from just past the bend. The #5 had a little tiny bit missing and all the other plugs were intact.

Here are pics of the #7 plug and the #4.

#7

#4

A leakdown test showed 28% on the #4 piston so the head was pulled off. All the other cylinders were 0% with the exception of #7 showing 7%.

Here is #4 cylinder after the head was pulled.

Had to pull the whole engine and tear it down. Going to have to start from square one again.

Here is the piston damage on #4.

Also, the pistons on the passenger side show a lot of wear on the skirts.

NGK BR7EF's were in there for the dyno runs but I have since then installed B8EFS's and have some B9EFS's in stock just in case. Damage is already done so a new set of plugs will go in the new engine.

We didn't even get a chance to spray the methanol, lol. Or the nitrous!

So did the plugs hang too deep and get beat up by the pistons or what? Very strange that the straps of 2 plugs would just fall off, seems like something wasn't accounted for.

A/f, timing, fuel?

Looks like they melted down, that's hard to do with a non-projected tip plug and it sounds like it was on the wrong side of the tune up.

Don't know yet maybe some builders here can give their insight.

Weird thing is that the #7 cylinder that had the plug melt was ok and the #4 that had a complete plug is the one with all the damage.

Non-projected plugs plus there was no damage to the top of the pistons from any type of contact.

A/F was in the 11.8 range. Not sure about the timing but the most it could have been is 19*. Running 91oct California pump gas at the time.

The engine builder thinks the passenger side was running a bit lean and the drivers side a bit rich. The injectors were supposed to be flow balanced.

The fuel system consists of three in-tank pumps with -8 lines going to a filter then to the back of the passenger fuel rail. Then a crossover to the drivers side then a -6 line from the back of the drivers side to the FPR and finally a -6 line back to the gas tank.

Here is a pic of the tops of the pistons.

Too much timing causing sideloading of the pistons maybe?

What came first, the dyno tune or the 200 miles of driving? Bob

Looks like the piston to wall clearance was a little tight?? No damage to the ring lands on most of the pistons - just skirts.

I was running 22psi and 20 degs on my engine, pump gas and alot of meth..
The way the piston skirts look are just the reason I dont like stroker cranks.. alot of guys have problems with shaving the skirts off with stroker cranks.
I really dont think the engine went lean as the pistons dont show any sign of hot spots on the top

Too much timing, with 91oct for starters. Do you have a 4 corner coolant cross over on the heads or is the rear still blocked?
