Default Cog Pulley Update 3/30/04

Got the car back on the lift tonight.............

Got the crank pulley to 250ftlbs with red locktite w/new pins Jeremy sent me.......THANKS!

Got the bracket cleared out 1.25" exactly..........

The belt slid right on, no tightness at all, had room to play even.......

Tension is at .75"

Not sure where to measure now that the belt is riding under the tensioner.......

I gave it a few part throttle blips via throttle body, no skipping what so ever, so I decided to take it for a little spin, I was having a problem before from when I would just flash the stall the belt would skip, that problem is also gone now........

I will not get on the car WOT because its not tuned, but I'm going to schedule an appointment A.S.A.P. to get it on so I can see if its going to hold up, it still looks to be like the belt is riding sideways on the whole setup, its still hanging slighty off the crank pulley.......

I will post pics tomorrow, but this is good news to me and others looking to get this setup working.......

Right ON! No problem on the extra pins Bos.
Good to hear that the belt went on with the extra clearancing with room to play. I still haven't got my AUTOMOTION Steel bracket yet(2 day fex my ***), but when I do it will the 1.25 slot lengthing
.75 sounds about right. Too bad about the belt still hanging off the crank pulley. Once Sikora has time to check it out, he'll be sure to get it all lined up.

I am waiting on fuel system stuff so my car is down until tomorrow(hopefully). I then I will get the tune that MM fixed up for me installed in the car. Hopefully it will do better on the dyno.

Which pins did you use, the long ones or the short ones?
Thanks for the update

I used the 1.25" pins......

We were using drill bits and a diamond grinder bit to clear out the aluminum, took a while, it was a tough process.......pretty strong material

I think I am going to add one more washer to what is currently on the idler, I got a little more space to play with between the supercharger idler and the stock idler.....so I can get it slightly more on the crank pulley......

I have a decent amount of belt dust built up on the blower, but this happened from when the car was just sitting at idle, and had more of a build up after I drove it around for about 10 miles, but what I do notice is that when I do give it a nice flash the boost needle goes right to zero and then blows off.......its quick and snappy and responsive, before it skipped when I tried doing it.....

Jeremy would you still be interested in those 42.5's when I get them off??

Its been a while, but we are all in the situation of trying to get crap together.......

I'll post pics for sure tomorrow

Do you think I should measure the belt tension how I was before Jeremy?

Maybe Tom can chime in on this......

On a bad note, I think my right rear HAL shock is blown out, it was covered in dirt, and the other wasn't, this one was COATED in oil, so I think its done for, I really haven't done much abuse to these shocks, I've only adjusted them a few times........

Car was dead as a doornail this morning when I went to start it, had to jump it, then the fuel pressure gauge was reading 23psi, and I knew the car couldn't be idling off of this, so I turned the car off, unplugged the sensor, put it back in, attempted to start car, dead again......finally after I got to where I was going and let the car idle for about 30mins it was alright.....

Pics are on the 2ND page of how it currently is setup, there seems to be a slight misalingment of the blower and crank pulley, almost like it rides on an angle, its something that sikora will have to look at........the belt is also still slightly hanging off the crank pulley, we will see how wears.........I'll get it all solved.....

Car is going into Speed Inc. on tuesday for the 60# to be put in, some minor tweaks of the car, and then some dyno tuning..........dynoing probably won't happen tuesday, but I will keep you updated......I hope to be there w/a video camera

Yep still interested in those 42.5's.
On the misalignment, maybe your bracket is tweeked a little. I know my aluminum bracket is, right where the s/c rests. It is twisted toward the engine just a hair and I mean just a hair. If you lay the bracket on a table or flat surface you will be able to tell. I guess the steel bracket would fix that but I don't know seeing how I haven't got mine yet Maybe put a thin washer on the stand off that the misalignment looks like its coming from? Might work?

Yep my car is dead too, have to throw it on the battery charger. I almost have the rails, and reg set up. Jegs didn't send me two fittings that I ordered I wasn't billed for them but the page that your print for your records shows that I did order them Damn my luck.

Hope you find someone that wants to video tape it, all my "friends" acted like "cool, I tape it" but when it came time to dyno it no one showed up. Lucky my brother was home and helped me out with the camera duty.

Tell you what, I be glad just to get the bird running again. My car runs about a month at a time before I rip back into it to do something else lol I wish I was rich so I could do this all at the same time

Maddboost LOL, Lets see if it will get to 10 pages, I hope to have the car running at the end of the week and have a new MM/PCMFORLESS tune installed at that time. Hopefully the car will run better.
I can't wait to see/hear bos' car and to see what it puts down.

Got an update........well today I had the crank bolt back out on me again........

Now, once I got it home I inspected some things.....

I was using 2 washers on the crank bolt with half the threads covered in red locktite, I torqued the bolt to 250ftlbs, and it still backed out.....

So now I'm going to give it another shot on tuesday, this time try one washer, and more locktite........this is pissing me off, I had to cut the damn belt again, I salvaged 2 of the pins that fell out, one is MIA......

I'm going to cancel my tuesday appointment and wait another week or so for sikora to finish off my cog stuff, on a good note, the belt after 150+ miles is wearing well, hasn't slipped once yet, it started to today, I noticed that the blower was starting to get quiet and then finally I got more vibration, so I checked it out.............I still can't believe it pulled itself out again........ The only place the belt wears is where it still hangs off the crank pulley, thats what I need to get fixed and we are good to go......

I can get unlimited access to these COG belts for 30 bucks, and the place is about 15mins from me........

Tuesday I will repin the crank pulley again, make sure all the crank bolt is smothered in red locktite, I'll go to 250ftlbs once again, and then try and go farther than that, and only use one washer this time.....

I just hope my local tuner can get the issue worked out w/the 60# injectors so I can run them in my car.........

PICS:

There are shots of my new silver painted grills, had the heat extractors done too, along w/the hawk emblum and pontiac on the headlight, let me know what you think There are some shots of the cog belt and how its wearing, and side by side shots of the belt I was running before w/it on top of the tensioner, this belt I've currently been running gave me no problems up until today, I assume it started to slip due to the crank pulley being loose.....

Bos, Are you reusing the same crank bolt over and over again???? I tried that once with my old setup afte ri broke the dowls off on the stock ATI crank pulley and i didnt know it...... pulley kept backing out and sheered off all three pins and destroyed the bablencer........ I ordered a new crank bolt from ATI..... Damn $5 dollor bolt and $1 washer and damn ATI $12 shipping.... they told me they only ship 2 day AIR..... It worked for me and just a thought...... i never used locktite either..... is your crank pinned??
Dealing with those Injectors.... i hope Jayson at MTI can figure out how to get them to work right........ That guys number would be great....

more locktite wont help..

I would get a new bolt from ATI, do the TTY thing (its a lot tighter then 250ft/lb) and pin your balancer with the ATI (procharger ATI) pin kit.

I like the cog idea but I dont think it will work with the stock balancer/pin arrangement at those boost levels, at the very least pin your damper. I can guarantee you if that pulley is coming loose on the street itwill be coming lookse a lot sooner at the track. I think the best way to go would be with an ATI damper, ATI (balancer company) pin kit, stock bolt at stock TTY spec and a bolt on crank pulley.

Do you have the steel bracket BOS? I wouldnt bother aligning anything till you get the bracket. (If it is bent you will be wasting your time I think)

good luck!!

I don't need the steel bracket, I have a bracket support that stops all flexing, so far so good with that.....

I am reusing the same bolt over and over again, I can't see how it would be a problem, its clean, and the threads are perfect.....

Explain this TTY thing, and how its tighter than 250ftlbs......

These COG pulleys won't work w/the ATI dampner, its designed to be used w/the stock crank pulley.....Jeremy hasn't had issues yet w/one washer......

Does anyone have ATI's #?

The bolts are torque to Yield. you are not supposed to reuse them. Definitely buy a new bolt. Should help a lot!
