Default Weighed some blocks this morning

This info might be helpful for those deciding which block to go with:

Used our electronic shipping scale, all blocks are standard deck height with main caps in place except for Dart Billet which is raised deck:

LS7..............107
RHS..............110
Dart Billet......128
6.0L Iron.......216 (weighed another block and changed this; first block had some weight added in the deck)
LSX..............230

Great info! I didn't realize the iron block weighs 100lbs more than the aluminum blocks.

Wow, Todd do you know how much weight is lost after the machining is done on the Dart block?

Just comparing the weights between it and the RHS you would think it has much more reinforcement, thickness, strength and stability over the RHS and other alum. blocks in the aftermarket. With its added weight comes added strength with the extra reinforcements it has.

I know the Dart block involves a lot of machining anyways to get to usable form, but even after that it still has to outweigh the others by a good margin which would still lead me to believe it is much stronger than the other alum. aftermarket blocks.

Kurt specs all the Dart blocks before ordering to avoid doing a lot of machine work after they arrive. I don't think there is any significant change after they show up here. Certainly nothing more than a few pounds. The limiting factor for most on the Dart is the price.

I know my REDs LS7 weighed in at 96lbs bored to 4.187, not much iron left in it though . That was with mains in place.

Not good for forced induction with that bore either.

I always read the 6.0L iron block weighed 80 lbs more than an LS1 block. But it's whatever I guess, 20lbs isn't no thang.

Wow, always heard 60-80#s for ls1-6.0. Sucks I added that much weight! Power should offset it nicely however!

Thanks for the info!

Weighed a bunch of blocks the other day and ls1 was around 95lbs. Iron 6.0 was 215-216 like said above. Iron 2 bolt sbc was 155, Iron 2 bolt main bbc was 205 lbs, and iron merlin 540 BBC was 235. I was shocked the 6.0 iron out weighs the factory bbc.

I'm a pretty scrawny guy and I can lift the ls1 up onto the engine stand no problem. I guess this explains why I bust the hoist out to get the iron 5.3 onto the stand
