I'm going to try the 5.3 **** out. If I can go fast on stock cheap **** then that sounds like a win win.
Because your gonna be pushing the hell out of that 5.3 when you can do it a lot easier with an LS3 and still have room to grow. Why depend on something to be running almost max effort(i know 5.3s have gone a lot higher then 800hp) when you can have the same thing thats a lot less stressful on the parts.

I'm a convert too!
Looking for a 2WD Silverado right now.

Last time I was at the 1/8's a guy had a 2002 Silverado...140K miles
5.3
Zr1 Cam
Truck manifold (looked like a ram!)
No Intercooler
mid mount comp oil"less" (hadn't even hooked up the coolant line yet)
He said he had a total of $7K into the ride.

Ran 7.1s-7.2s with a passenger and eating burgers. I sh*t you not...I saw him take a bite after his burnout.

Sh*t, you can buy short blocks on ebay for $100.

If money isn't an issue, then why do a rear mount setup on a 5.3? Do twins front mounted on that big motor and run low boost and big power.

You got 10k? If so yeah it's for sale. Fast intake and all. Sleeved alum block. Forged internals. Cnc ls7 heads with titanium valves. Hollow exhausts. 254/265 cam. Fast 102

The car has dual pumps and 80lb injectors. Those are the limiting factors here. So no matter what turbos or what motor 800rwhp is the limit. Seems pointless to have a boosted 7.0 that only makes 800. If I wanted 1200 or so then yeah let's boost the ls7. But everything I have would work better with 5.3

How thick are the sleeves on the 429 vs the 325. Seems there are quite a few folks blowing sleeves on large cube aluminum motors. The 5.3 has some monster sleeves. I say sell the large cube motor for a stack of cash and use that to make a solid roller front mount 5.3 that revs to 8k with ease!

What kind or timeline are you looking at to get this thing going in its new direction?

Just sell the big cube motor and build a forged lq motor.

Do you really give a **** if you blow up a $500 5.3?? A guy will / can by really good components and get some piece of mind from knowing he has a well built engine with the good stuff in it.. That is a valid point I will not argue.

BUT, from a guy whos done it before. There is a WHOLE LOT of piece of mind that comes from " who gives a **** if I hurt it, Its only a $500 motor!"

AND, guess how much your spare 5.3L will cost, just incase you stress out your first one.

I 'd be happy with a 5th gen with a ls7... if you really want to run faster than the wind buy a stripper fox with some spray even on a stock 5.3 and you 'll be good.

Because the 5.3 isn't going to be snappy and fun off boost like the big motor in your car will be...do you always drive at full boost? Do you like waiting for boost?...the bigger engine will be way better off boost, will snap faster, will spool faster...

Why don't u just sell that car and buy a built car instead of phucking it up? This threads worthless just like the car will be if u put a 5.3 in that heavy bitch.

Build starts this weekend. Going to yank the old motor. Maybe drop in a mock up motor. Start turbo fab.

^^^^Now that made me laugh!

If money is not an object I would do the same. But for what he could sell that monster n/a motor for he could buy and build a pretty killer turbo setup.

This is actually a good point. I say this as a previous Buick GN owner/racer. I was often jealous of my NA/nitrous friends cars on the street. Sure, I would beat most of them at the track, but on the street they could often put a few cars on me before I spooled up.

I think most of us with turbo 5.3s would have turbo 7.0s if we could... just sayin'...
