What size are these? Also has any one here actually used them with ac? Do they actually push enough air to keep the engine cool if its 100 out and ac is on?

Yellow wire goes to switched 12v source (as pictured)

so is that the correct spot to plug in the yellow 12v switched or did i misunderstand? i'm not all that familiar with this yet but i think i will know much more after this weekend! is the switched 12v actually a ground? i was just assuming it was power.
pcm supplies the ground, not the power. im guessing for the instructions you are looking at the derale instructions? i didnt look at those and just made my own harness. but if you have that yellow wire going to pin 85, then pin 86 needs to go to 12v. that way when the pcm says fans on, the 12v from pin 86 is closed through the ground on your yellow wire when energizes the relay to send power from the 12v post to the fan

yes that's what i'm using Tally is Derale's diagrams which are as follows....

30 Red to Batt (using post by fuse box)
87 Orange to Fan power
86 Yellow to 12V +
85 Black to Ground.

So instead, 85 Black should go to the fuse box in place of the current Yellow wires for the ground/signal source and the Yellow should instead go to the same terminal post along with 30? Do i finally have it right? lol

like i said, i will know a lot more about wiring after this weekend and really, it's about damn time! lol

I ran the yellow 12 trigger wire right into the oem fan connector. Spade style end slide right in. I will get a pic if you guys want but one harness control the low speed (1 fan) and the when i trigger the high speed temp they both run at the same time.

between pin 85 and 86, as long as one goes to the 12v (same post as pin 30 is fine) and the other goes to where your spade terminals are in the fuse box, itll be fine

that's what i did so it should be all good now. thanks a bunch for the info and patience with the questions Tally!

now, do i need a relay for my 5.3amp derale fan on my trans cooler? lol it doesn't say anything about needing one, just a keyed 12v source to the thermostat. wasn't sure if that would draw enough power to require one or not.

We will see. I have two ordered that should be here Wednesday. We will find out how they do on an ac car.

So stupid question, how does the high n low speed work? Thought they were just on/off, low voltage for slower speed? I have 2 of these myself and I was just gonna run them both on while driving and wired to a switch on my panel, is that crappy or not work?

no your setup is fine. the factory setup uses the third relay to switch the fans to parallel wiring so they only get half voltage and both run at half speed. they do this because two fans at low speed is 1) quieter than one fan at high speed and 2) cools better than one on high

just for reference me saying "high speed" means the fan seeing batt/alt voltage ie plain old on

Jerry, that setup is fine but its controlled by the pcm and the 3rd relay. You can use the factory wiring and make the fans work but you need to know what your doing

explain yourself sir!! haha i like the thought of having them set up like the factory if possible. and will do on the relay for the trans cooler.

Above info is backwards:

Parallel run both fans on high as each fan would get the 12 - 14V
Series them and they would run 6-7V across each.

In series, you get a voltage drop, in this case, half as there are two fans

P = I V - current is determined by the load, in this case, a Fan wanting ~23A

Im sure that is what you meant (maybe thinking of power sources and voltages)... as you know how three relays are used etc...

you are correct, i hate wiring. i was mistaking current splits and voltage splits

thanks

someone should to do a writeup on how to wire in dual fans to work like the factory setup with as many of us as there are swapping to these and then make it a sticky.
