Default qmp kit

if you look at the ls1 turbo kit from qmp on the web site it lists for 6999, if you look at the ad on the same site that was in high tech pontiac it lists for 5895. Is this a different kit or what??? Just curious.

I was also wondering, how much would a adequate forged motor cost to be able to take the kind of power this kit would make? Or on the other hand how long would the stock motor last before blowing up? I would probably want a t76 at about 7lbs of boost or so.

If anyone has this kit or knows anything about them it would be great if you could help me out.

Bottom line jdp,, the kit is $6999, and is sold on install only basis, unless you can somehow talk Rob into selling as a kit again. The stock engine shoudl hold up to around 7psi quite well if tuned correctly. As for bottom ends I am researching now, and you can from mild to wild. Mild $3000 or so should handle good amount of boost, wild $more and handles whatever you wanna throw it at, minus head lifting issues currently being worked out.

I ran mine at 10lbs of boost regularly and didn't have any problems with 12lbs every now and again. I changed the pushrods and springs before the turbo install.

This man was seriously bent! Rob almost passed out when he heard him say, "It really rips at 12 pounds."

My engine wore out the piston rings immediately after the turbo was installed. It was tuned by Ed Wright btw and only running 7lbs. So be prepared to spend alot more. I have already put 10k into this kit and I still have to get new rings and pistons, an exxhaust leak fixed and replace the clutch disk on my Mcleod. I am losing a war with my car but I wont give up.

this is the exact thing im talking about..... i would plan to run approximately 7 lbs also but my main concern is all the headaches that i hear about like this..... i dont want to be replacing crap every other time i drive the car. i realize that i will have to replace the clutch and rear end but i dont want to spend more in parts then i did for the car. hell if i want to spend all that money i can get a c6 zo6 when it comes out....

Im guessing this is on a stock bottom end from ur list of mods correct.
Ever think of getting more durable parts in the bottom end? Well now
would be the best time. Cause you have to go in there anyway now.
Did QMP warn ya about this possibly happening?

Wow! I am on my way to the second season, EW tune, running ten pounds. I swapped to an A4, which cost me $1400. $300 for an SMC kit... Let's see... I added a suspension for better launches for $450 (Fully Adjustable LCAs, PHR, and Spohn TA). 5-8% leakdown on all cylinders (same as before the kit). And, yes! I run the living WEE out of my car. It's fun.

The only downside I found is that the already present piston slap (thanks GM) in sub-40* temps is more prominent, but it is gone after it's warm.

Ya I am going to get some forged lower compression pistons this summer. I dont remember if they warned me or not but it really doesnt matter because I knew this was a possibility going into it. I planned to get new pistons before the kit I was just hoping my car would last longer so I could wait a while.
Something I forgot to mention is that I have a horrible vacuum leak as well. My car idles very irradictly and dies often unless I give it gas. I think this is also because of the piston rings so hopefully that problem will go away with the new pistons and rings.
