Default Turbo fuel pump woes...

Posted this in the fuel section and got no replies. Sort of need help quick so any thoughts would be appreciated

Got my car about 30 miles from home today and it shut down again. Exact same symptoms as last time (see my build thread) so it must be the same issue. Hose blew off of the fuel pump going to the y fitting in the tank (dual pumps). Replaced the clamps last time and it ran fine until now. I am running dual Walbro 255s and my gauge is reading 70-73 psi at the rail (haven't checked with a good mechanical gauge yet). Would that be why it keeps blowing hoses off? What are you guys running twin pumps using to secure fuel lines in the tank? I had those little t bolt clamps last time and they lasted about 2 hours and the worm clamps Im using now didn't do much better. Installing a FPR isn't an option until I can get the car home. Would increasing the clamps to 2 on each fitting possibly work?

I think I used the fuel injection clamps, kinda like tbolt but they use a small bolt & square nut. It's been almost 3 years & they haven't came off. 2 walbro 255s but my base pressure is 50psi with the engine running & no vacuum on the regulator. 2 clamps would probably help if you have room. I used barbed fittings too.

Is the nipple on the Y a single barb, or a multi barb like most brass fittings?

I use these on the Y block and never have a line come off there. I have seen the hose slip off the fuel pump.

It's blowing off of the pump end. The y-fitting is holding well. IIRC the Walbro doesn't have a barbed output like that, and that is the part that keeps coming off. I picked up some more worm clamps and more FI clamps. I'll double clamp everything I can and see what happens. Wish me luck!

I used them the first time and they didn't hold. Same spot - right off of my primary pump. I picked up some more and I'll give it another try. I wonder if there's a way to change out the feed fitting on a Walbro pump?

Are you using fuel injection hose too.. I think it's a little bit heavier duty than regular hose. Idk if that would matter though. And I know this sounds dumb but I assume you're using the right size. I've seen people use 3/8 hose on 5/16 fitting & then wonder why it leaked lol

Yeah it's FI hose for sure. The piece of hose going from the pump to the y-fitting was the piece that came with the Walbro originally, so it's gotta be the right size I would think.

There's FI hose and then there's FI hose for intank use...Not the same hose.

normal fuel injection hose after about 3 months turns to slippery mush. I have found push lock hose to hold up pretty well

You really need to get the pressure down and get a FPR on there and then go from there.

Yeah, it was reading around 76psi today. Ruh roh...

I would have thought that, but it was the line that actually failed, not the clamps. I can't blame it entirely on the line as the pressure is way too high. Pulled the pumps out and the feed on my primary pump was ruptured. Replaced it with stronger stuff and now it's good to go again. Regardless, the pressure needs to come down. Is there any way to do so without installing an aftermarket FPR? I've heard that the in-tank regulator is adjustable.

Ain't nothing a dremel can't take care of or buy the correct bit. Whichever is easiest in my book.

Couldn't get it adjusted. Stripped out the screw. That bugger in there pretty good.
But I did get a mechanical gauge on it and it seems that my electric one is a POS (Glowshift, go figure). Mechanical gauge read 52psi with the key on and 60psi at idle. Electric one read 75-80psi at idle. 60 is a little high but definitely not as bad as 80. I redid the plumbing on the pumps with better fuel line and have everything double clamped. Seems to be running well. Took it out for a drive and took it to 5psi a couple of times. Fuel pressure stayed steady and AFR stayed around 10.5:1 in boost.

thats plenty fat, better be careful I have seen more ring lands pop from being to fat, try to get the afr up to at least 11,0-11.5 and really if your only running 5psi of boost you can get away with even leaner as long as you dont get greedy with timing

Yeah it's pig rich for sure, but it's only on a base tune right now. Full tune will be coming in about a week. Definitely not stopping at 5 psi, just stopped there today because of the tune. 5 pounds came at around 4k RPM. Motor is forged, and turbo is intercooled and methed so I'm aiming for 10psi daily and maybe 13-14 at the track.

Thanks for all the help guys!
