Default disassembled my engine last week. rings.

well pistons came out of my engine this saturday.
looks like the rings couldnt take the heat from the turbo or something

a close inspection of the rings showed a groove in the middle of the rings that got burnt in there.
one piston was ruined as the ring land was lifted.

bearings didnt look to bad, just a little freakled from the coolant when mine head gaskets leaked a while ago.

the carbon/oil build up on the top of the piston looked horrible you could see on the side of the piston that the rings wernt holding in the oil.

these were just the standard rings that came with my JE's
so hopefully my chromoly rings will hold better.

next i got to hone the block then reassemble everything

yes i know, but you told me to fix the easy stuff first then through process of elimination.

the engine has about 7K on it, reason i tore it down i was loosing alot of oil.
ive been putting it off for quite some time, didnt the heads, pvc system and just got done with the turbo as well. all freshened up. when i saw the pistons i desided to stop messing around and get it done.

shouldnt cost me a whole lot, just parts cause im doing the work myself with a friend instructing me on the way. Only took me about two days at 3 hours each day pulling the engine out the top all by myself as well.
it will take longer doing it myself with my limited time, as i just have saturdays free to work on it, but if i ever need to do it again i know how to, or when i build my stroker, ill know how to

cool, i did most of the work on my engin my self. i did 99% of the pull and helped with assembling it.
its nice to say you did the work.
it took me 3 weeks to pull it, clean/paint everything, build the motor, put it back together and fire it off.
keep in mind i also painted the block water pump and acc.
2 weeks wasnt bad.
did you have the turbo freshend up? what kind of miles on that?

ya its cool when you can say i built it not just drive it.

the turbo had 10,000 miles on it
think it was going out cause of the oil restrictor and poor drainage.
