Good point and a much more fair complaint IMO

Amen brother!! I couldn't agree with you more!! When it comes time to build a better setup, you can bet your *** Ill be using a BW or Garrett turbo, bc they ARE the best. I built my setup on a college student fund and I like to think I did a pretty damn good job. But for my next build, I will have better funds and will use either a BW unit or a Garrett unit bc you cannot beat the quality and testing that goes into them. But for now my chinese "magnum" will have to do

Tim, did you read what Sarg said? He said cxracing had the trubo before Magnum did!! That is all the evidence you should need. And as far as the compressor cover, YES you can see some of the letters that spell out magnum!!

Also how am I hurting Rob at all? Magnum isn't the only turbo he sells and it's not his fault that Magnum is screwing people by selling a turbo for twice the price and throwing their name on it. That **** happens ALL the time. And Ill recommend this turbo to anybody I please. Why not? It works just as good and is way cheaper?

No I said that very similar turbos were for sale on Alibaba.com before magnum or CX had them for sale.

Well, wouldn't that mean that Magnum didn't design "their" own turbo? Rather they bought them from a chinese company, slapped their name on it and sold it as a Magnum turbo. Seems like CX racing is doing the same thing but for half the price, of course until someone pointed that out, then they jacked the price up. Either way, Magnum obviously was not the originators of that turbo.

It is quite possible. Or Magnum took an existing design, improved on it, made some internal and external changes and started manufacturing it on their own. I honestly don't know. I just know for $899 you can get a S480 vs $1100 for a Magnum or $650 for a CX racing. I went the S480 route. Not as cheap maybe as the CX racing, but definitely gave me a little piece of mind in my build and $200 cheaper than the Magnum 80mm.

Edit, course I got a couple upgrades and it ended up being about the same as the Magnum in cost....but it IS a Borg Warner with about the latest turbine design!

I agree buddy. When I purchased my 80mm, I didn't have the time or money to convert everything over to T6. I really wanted a BW and was going to run the on3 until I had the time and money to rebuild my hotside and get a BW. Then my old roommate showed me the cxracing turbo and at that time it was $529 shipped and the only modification I had to make was a new downpipe and a little coldside tweaking. So I went ahead and got it, the next day I posted the link to that turbo on here and several other forums. The VERY next day the price jumped to 800 and then to 1000 and eventually settled back down to 650. So if I had to buy it now, I would go BW since I have the time and money to do it, but for now Im going to see what this Magnum can do. I can tell you according to my IDC's this turbo makes way more power than my on3. At 14psi on the on3 my IDC was 57%, with this turbo at 14 psi it's 80%. It is definitely working lol.

Edit: and 14psi on the on3 was enough for me to run 10.97 @ 124.6 @ 4300lbs

Nice, although I would definitely expect a jump in hp when going from a 76 to an 80mm turbo. One would hope it would be a bit more efficient and move a bit more air. Now my real question would be what you would see by going to a similarly sized Borg unit. Similar turbine, compressor and similar size and AR turbine housing!

Yea my IAT's don't rise nearly as much, infact The most Ive seen so far are about 25-30 more than ambient. And yea Im sure a similar BW would be better for sure.

So Is the Magnum 80mm and gt45 the same turbo or not? I bought a Magnum 80mm from a Member on this board and I need to know what turbine outlet v band flange to buy?

I love it! I installed it several months back but the truck has been down while Im doing backhalf and ladder bars. The magnum and the cxracing gt45 80mm is the same turbo and the dowpipe flange is a standard 4" vband and the compressor outlet is 3.5" vband. I think this turbo will support anything that my 5.3 can handle and I plan to turn it up and get into the 9's with the truck. Here is a pull I did a few months back. Its at 13.5 psi in 3rd gear with my th400. 65mph-125mph

Glad to hear you're having good results. You wouldn't happen to know how big it is (physically) compared to a BW S480? Also, how is the spool up time in 1st gear?

Thanks!

Sounds good Pyro. Hrhohio, I'm not 100% sure on size compared to a s480 but I would imagine e the compressor is right at the same size. The t4 housing is big for a t4 but not as big as a t6. It's really a t5 housing that was filled and drilled for a t4 flange

Sounds like its just slightly smaller then. Thanks for the info,

Are you still planning on switching to a S480 eventually, or running this for a while? You said before that if you had the time and money that you would have gone with the BW. Do you still feel the same about that? Any regrets on buying the GT45 80mm ?

I plan to push this setup to the max. It should be good for 800rwhp or so, maybe more. After the motor goes I'll build something forged and go 90+mm. No need to fix it if it isn't broken. I'm very satisfied with it and no I don't regret it
