Clearly the car isnt set up for drag racing...but the fact it goes so bloody fast when it does, speaks volumes. It is flying !!
TBH, it's a pity to see high performance cars converted for straight line use only, when they can have such all round abilities.
With the car as it is...other than being dangerous, it must be a blast to drive.
But in a pure drag format, it's bound to be easy low 8's, if not better.

So many in the US just judge based on pure drag use.

and your right.......I've never been fast with a 6-speed. I've never even owned one.

I used to think this way as well, as I have a light car that does everything well. The reality is, 'all round abilities' is just that - good at many things, great at nothing.
Around here going fast around corners nets you a fine for street racing and reckless driving. They can take and crush the car. In fact, many people have lost their cars because of this. He is probably getting tired of smashing the gas and thinking of how fast the car 'could be' if it had "fill in the blanks".
Really though, the size of the car, motor, and big heat generator shows that this car would do well in 1/4, 1/2, or mile races over such things as auto x or road racing. In this case he is caging it and throwing in an auto, and this is the smartest move. The car itself is still comfortable and aerodynamic.
IMO, he can now be really strong at what excites him the most.
