Default Forced Induction Iron V.S. Alloy

Most folks building FI set-ups seem to use the LQ4/9 blocks as 370,390,402,or408 is there a reason a LS2 402 or 416 LS3 would not be up to the task of 750-980 FWHP?

An LS2 is a stronger block with thicker sleeves than an LS1. So start with that a minimum. Also pinning the main caps prevents them from walking around even though they already have 6 bolt caps. At your desired power levels pinning the main caps probably isn't needed.

Plenty of people making 900rwhp+ on stock LS2/LS3 blocks and stock crank with good rods/pistons.

If you are running a supercharger an aftermarket crank would be a good choice due to the added tension on the crank snout.

LOL....HAHA yup! i dont mind normally TRYING to use it but it just sucks! and tons of new posts is what keeps this site so active! +1 for pointless threads!!!

but im taking the chance on the ls3! ill keep ya'll posted... going to go scat crank and arp"d mains...ill take trust in a sponsor of tech! You read about too many ls3 powered cars now days with 8-1k rwhp and not many problems. I think too many people see something they dont like like thinner sleeve thickness and shy away because there use to what they have...ill trust the builder!

for that kind of power, any block will be fine.

Now, lets say you have an aluminum 5.3?
What are its capabilities?

What would be needed to make it a capable runner with the said HP?
Thanks

The aluminum blocks are simply not as strong and have a higher price tag. You can definitely use an aluminum block as long as you are willing to pay for the right parts. For example we can sell you a 408 rated at 900HP for $3849 OR and LS3 rated to 900HP for $4799. Both are great blocks and will take a similar beating but there is a decent difference in price. You will have the ability to get away with a little more oops factor in the iron block. If you break a piston in your 402CI LQ9 you have plenty of Cyl wall to build again, If you do the same in the LS3 you will be hard pressed to do the same. That being said if you are concerned with the weight OR are just simply wanting aluminum there is no reason not to go that route with the intended power output you are looking to make.
