Any turbo guys wish they had gone with a blower, or vice versa?

After seeing what some of you guys in here have been getting out of your setups, and seeing a couple of very powerful FI cars on the dyno, I want to learn more about the pros and cons. I see the turbo as the most efficient, but I also see Ronnie Duke's car hauling *** at the track, over and over. Have any of you turbo guys switched over to blower setups? The turbo to me seems the best route, as I am constantly reading about belt problems and what not from the blower guys. I don't personally know anyone with an FI setup, so I really have nothing to compare to. My goals would be:
-mid 8 second track car, no street.
-non C5R motor or heads
That's pretty much it. I would just like opinioins on which setup guys are getting the best times on.

Wow. Well... I don't think we have any mid 8-second supercharged LS1's yet, do we?
And there are only a few 8-second turbo LS1's (one or two??)
Actually, how many 8-second LS1's are there period?
For what you're talking about, I would say your best bet is forget the LS1 and go with a big block with nitrous or a roots blower.
Good luck.

The BBC route would be nice, but that's been done a hundred times over. Ronnie Duke's car is a C5R motor, which I still consider an LS1. Based upon what I've been seeing on this board, there should be quite a few guys running in the low 9's and high 8s' now. Who knows.

ronnie dukes car has a 387cid C5R block and heads, F1R + HUGE air/water intercooler. It runs 8.5x with some nitrous added...and maybe 8.7?? w/o the nitrous...cant remember exactly.
so out of the two 8 second "LS1" cars, both have C5R heads; one has a blower, one uses nitrous.

Well, I'm very satisfied with my Vortech V9 kit. Its a good street supercharger kit for a street car. Of course there are bigger blowers, bigger turbos, etc. I know some people here are hard-core drag racers, but for what I wanted, I think my car turned out very nice (considering this is the first car I've ever owned).
A cool-looking cool-sounding car that runs mid to high 10's on pump gas is the perfect combo for me. I don't need to be an 8-second dragster.

I vote turbocharger. Get the car weight down to 3000 or less and you can run mid to low 8's with a safe tune up.
I am just starting on a gen 3 turbo car for the track, but it will be awhile before its done....

i am gonna do a hybrid thridgen for street/strip....well.....mostly strip. i am lookin into turbo set ups because of the way power is delivered.
basically, boost is boost, it will get in ther eand try to create teh same amount of power regardless of how all the air got there. the supercharger drive does sap a reasonable percentage of power, but it is also a bit easier on your bottom end components because the boost comes on in a more linear fashion. turbo is a different story, you crack teh throttle and there is full boost rather quickly. this shock of power, especially at lower rpms causes more strain on teh componenets.
thankfully teh LS1 is a plenty strong block to deal with the more shock type boost of a turbo, and you don't have that percentage loss that you see with a Supercharger drive.
which ever you choose in tehnd, make sure you put a lot of thought and research into you choice of inter/aftercooler. they really do make a huge difference in the way the car performs and the potential power it can make.
