ignorance is costly so im trying to educate myself. not opposed to buying a $1000 converter for my $600 junkyard engine but i want to make sure its my only option.

right now im at like 30% slippage due to shifting at 5900. i added a cam to get me to about 6800 but also increased the compression a point. now, the stall is higher the engine has so much torque that it goes straight to 5000rpms and 10psi in less than 1 second

does anyone have knowledge of the following and why they would or would not work:

1. stockish, heavy, 12" converter
2. very low stall circle track converter
3. torque converter eliminator(direct drive)
4.other.

what converter do you have now?

Lenny at UCC is very affordable if your core can be modified.

Go to TSC and buy some hydraulic fluid. Use that for fluid. Normally will tighten one up 200-300 rpm.

redneck(now out of business) turbo converter. it ran 6.0 at 114 last year with 14 percent slip at 7400rpms. this year, 6.0 at 114 with 30% slip, 5900 rpms

I went from sae 48?? low viscosity hydraulic fluid(similar to regular auto trans fluid) to now a mix of jd hygard(approx sae 68) and mobil dte heavy sae 100!! hydraulic fluid.

I think the engine responded on the low end just too well to the extra point of compression

Go straight hygard.... or does that Sae 100 fluid make it even thicker?

What diameter is it 9? 10?

I had PTC restalled my converter, did it for a great price. Also ALOT of guys around here use Lenny at UCC especially the ones who race in the heads up style and x275 classes. Just from the positive feedback alone I would try them out.

IIRC, when I talked to ptc they said I was at the limit of this physical converter due to low rpms and eighth mile. they told me I would need to step up to their nissan converter to see improvement.

Call Dusty Bradford and get a PTC spec'd for your setup, just wasting time otherwise IMO.

I saw on the turbo forums that the tci 2300 converter is very low slip up to 1000 hp.any one have information?

update:

my redneck converter was slipping 32% as stated, at 5900 rpms. I had a hunch that if I raised the rpm, it would tighten up.

so I added a decent cam and made a pass. Even with a best ever mph, the same converter is only slipping 12% at the eighth at 7600 rpms.
