I am glad you guys clarified this because I run stock bottom end engines with a 100k or more in miles with my twin turbo's. If I can find it locally I am going to try the VR1 40 weight oil that was mentioned. Seems like a good compromise.

I just got a case of the full synthetic VR1 20-50 race oil. It says "not street legal"....I was shocked to see that. I assume because it is not good for cats, which I don't have? Why else would they say "not street legal"?

We run Schaffers Racing oil. We run them in our dirt late models turning 8500 rpm constantly. Excellent oil. I run it in my supercharged 402 in my truck, wife's Saturn Outlook and Dodge 2500 truck. The oil stands up to alcohol very well. Has zinc additives etc...

Zinc in the oil is essential to the FI motors as I understand it. The link posted at the beggining of this thread has many oils that have it. I use the VR1 20W50. Its easily found, and generally not too expensive. Granted I don't really drive my FI car in the cold, but specifically when my motor was built, it was built with bigger clearances, and I was told specifically to use the 20W50 weight.

I took my car out of winter storage yesterday, 5 months it was in a heated building. Yesterday it was probably 50 in the building. Went to drain the 20-50 and it was coming out like tar. Had to start and warm up the engine in order to drain it. Wouldn't want to drive the car with 20-50 in it until fully warm. I switched to the synthetic as it should be a bit thinner.
