I placed a pin in red 38 on the ecm and from there to the dk blue wire that goes to the gauge, (via hp tuner forum)
then the purple from the sending unit to the purple in the 02 harness,
tried both the 98 sending unit and the 02 sending unit, the only difference the 98 has a bigger sweep for voltage then the 02 does but gauge still reads full all the time per both sending unit

Is the problem not the sending unit and its the gauge reading? I thought the 98 had a wierd ohm range for the gas gauge.

it does its backwards from the rest 250 empty and 30 full 99 up are opposite.
so I would think the gauge would just read backwards.

I thought you had to do something in the tune to make the gauge read properly?

THE ECM DOSE HAVE THE UP DATED OS, 122526155 or somthing like that.
its the 3bar enhanced converted from what ever but I dont know if I need to change something else
