Default E85-E70 How much will it effect my tune

I am in need of fuel and I just got a sample at my local gas station and it is 72% ethanol. How much will this change my tune. I was debating going to the track this weekend or next and I will need fuel.

Your fueling at most will be about a half point richer. The octane of the fuel will not be that much different either. If you are not showing heat in your plugs with e85 you will be just fine at 70%.

Thanks for the info. I will keep my eyes on things but I didn't want to do it if it would be a big change

Going forward come the fall you may want to get a drum and fill it up with e85 while it's still in the summer blend. Granted that doesn't help you know.

What he said.

Just bump your injector size a tad lower in the tune

I run 50-85 and it is super easy to shift the injector size a little bit to keep the fuel curve right on the money

What hellsbent said.

Ive been seeing its best if you tune on E85 and leave a few degrees of timing on the table so incase you get something close to E80-E70 all youll get is a richer running car and not something worse. Tuning on E70 and then running it all out on E85 would cause it to go lean(er) and possibly hurt some ****.

Alot more to tuning between the two fuels than switching injector size, if the tune is spot on with gas try switching the base AFR from 14.68 to 9.75 and monitor

It works fine In a pinch, but if you are reflashing it anyway why not have a whole gas tune ready so its not a problem?

I got stuck one time and had to put in gas, dropped the fuel pressure from 55# to around 30# and it ran good enough to get home. I often just adjusted fuel pressure using the wideband to compensate E50-E85

We have E51 right now. It took me a couple passes to adjust the tune but I set a new best on it. Can't wait for the summer blend to get here.

I tried making shell corporate change the signs from e85 to e70 when the switch is made so I am not testing the **** all the time.

I consider it false advertising to say its 85% then sell 70% personally. Especially when tunes could be dependent on it.

Getting through to them is tough though.

good luck with that, they know vehicles that use it have ethanol content sensors to adjust for the amount of ethanol from the pumps. They have the disclaimer on the pumps that specify the content could vary from 70-85%.

You might want to recheck the labels. All last year it said "minimum E70"....now they all say "minimum E51" I am convinced that it doesn't really matter. A little bit of tuning and they still run well. Like I said, I set a new best on this stuff this past weekend on only 12lbs of boost. The octane is very close and the cooling characteristics are very close to methanol. I was NOT running an intercooler but now that E51 is here and don't know for sure when they will change, I am putting on an A2A under my front bumper for safety.

if they could make up there minds and get the consistency down pat, itd be the perfect fuel. but still, its pretty badass. you just cant set it quite on kill because of the variances from tank to tank, but its worth the sacrifice when you consider the 85 dollars a can for the URT 110 unleaded from shell.

They drop the ethanol content with colder weather because it gets harder to start the car when the ethanol content is high and the temps are colldddd. The farther south you go, the sooner they start selling actual E85. Ohio starts getting actual E85 in May while Michigan has to wait till June.

I am in Alabama, and it only gets cold for a few days out of the hole winter. Mainly just rains. Hopefully itll be available for my dyno session here in 2 months.
