Is that the only cylinder that broke the sleeve and block?

Hate to see carnage!

How much would it effect the weight distribution of the car going to an iron block?

We have done 850+ rwhp on a few cars with 6an line(or 3/8 hard line) and 80lb injectors, just need to run decent pressure behind them.

Honestly, if your tuneup was right and you had e85, this wouldn't have happened. Just something to think about, people always like to think meth is cheaper, but the number of stock shortblocks that die on pump gas/meth motors is a lot more than e85 IMO.

+1 The in-cylinder cooling effect that E85 has is great. Its something that isnt measured easily but its effect is very obvious.

Wasn't a hot spot or any of that crap. Obviously this is top ring issue on clearance. The compression ring butted ends, wobbled and bounced, expanded then pulled off part of the piston crown. Nothing more to see here.

So would you say it wasn't because it detonated?

There are no signs of detonation from the images posted. Looks like metal fatigue failure due to binding.

I would recommended pulling the damaged piston looking at the profile of the metal surface of the compression ring and 2nd ring. The story will unfold from there.

Look for lateral and linear rough surfaces on the compression ring surface. And on the end gaps look for dulling of the edges.

If you have bad eyes go to radio shack buy magnifier 10x for $8.99

Detonation will knock a hole in the piston just like that too seen it many times, too many. Lol

Yes that was the result of detonation.

Sureeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee it was detonation.... cleanest damn burn I have seen. There is no pitting or spot of the piston surface. And you say its detonation? lol

The piston ring was pulling off due to binding/metal fatigue. Not detonation... Detonation cause pitting and carbon to fry to the piston surface as well as fracturing. This was not detonation.

Pull the piston and look at the ring surface to get to the bottom of this.

Seen lots of stock shortblocks do the same thing due to detonation, I agree with hellbents10 that it detonated. I still say with a better tuneup and e85 it would have never happened.

whats it matter if the pistons were 4032 when ya destroy the block like that. they are 4032 mahles regardless. http://www.jegs.com/i/Mahle/644/LS13...oductId=757295

just check out the part number

2618 pistons should have been used, they are softer and can handle FI power and detonation better then 4032 pistons...
