Default How much FI hp needed to run 10's?

Ok so I've made my hp goal from 500hp to 1000hp and everything in between. Before i go any further with the build and buying parts I'd like some opinions on just how much power I need.

Its an 96 camaro, going turbo LQ4 swap. Its pretty much gutted, and getting tubular k member and A arms so from what I've read expecting race weight to be around 3,100 lbs. I'm keeping the T56. Not sure on what gears yet. I've already purchased a Huron Speed T4 front mount kit. All my suspension, besides tubular parts up front, is finished. And running 28x15 DR's.

So what kind of hp numbers am I going to need with that weight, T56, and T4 turbo?

race weight at 3100? if so, you dont need forced induction to run 10's.I ran 10.79 @ 130 with a N/A 6.0 @ 3505lbs stick car. I think 9's are a for sure with a turbo, even with the stick. the hard part will be getting the car to 60 ft

With the right suspension upgrades, gears, tire size, and turbo I dont see how you wont break into single digits at that race weight As mentioned above, people break into the 10s N/A or even faster on nitrous with ease with a 6.oh under the hood. Goodluck with the build! You will see 10s with ease. Lol

Edit: People with past experiences will give good info.

With drag radials you are making life much harder on yourself with a 6 speed unless you're running an adjustable slipper clutch.

even then radials and clutches do not play nice, I've tried it. use slicks when at the track with a clutch car

If I wanted to run 10's then I would do it naturally aspirated.

I would say between 460-500rwhp would do it no problem. depending on your setup, and weight, and how much power it makes naturally aspirated will determine how much boost you should run.

Hey if you guys say run slicks, then slicks it is. Too easy to buy another set of wheels and tires. And thanks for the input.

I'd like to run turbo for a few reasons. Its mostly going to be a nice, fast, street car (yes even though gutted, no abs, and manual steering, but to me thats a real muscle car and love it), FI is sweet for the cool factor and car shows, and I think it would be easier/cheaper to make 6-700hp FI than all motor. Plus if I was shooting for 500 I would be keeping the LT1 and put some nitrous on it. But I know over 500 with LT is a pain in the butt and dont want to waste any more time on that thing.

so about 500hp will do the job? I live in el paso, tx and the elevation is super high, and i could swear our track is "preped" by just blowing the sand off, so I'd like to tack on another 100 hp to whatever is needed for you guys to run the same times

well if your going to run 600-700 like you say with some weight mods then I would say youd be shooting for low 10's high 9's.

@ 3100lbs you should be able to go 10.99 with around 400RWHP as long as you can get the car to 60 in the 1.4x range. 500RWHP would probably get you closer to a 9 second pass. Again as long as you can get it to leave.

Yea track prep at my track is garbage, and tack on the altitude, from what you guys are saying I'll probably need about 600. And then in a few years if I move back to SC or FL I'll be golden.

I'm all about weight mods, also I'm 5'9" and just weighed in at 123 lbs. The army is actually threatening to kick me out for being underweight, which is fine by me, I've done my time.

@ 3pedals, Thats a nice build you have. I'd definitely go blow through if I didnt have to deal with emissions. For now I'm stuck with tuning codes out. If only my LT was one year older...

If you can get it to launch decent 1.6 60 or better and can bang the gears it will only take around 6lbs of boost. I ran a 10.94 / 7.07 on 8lbs of boost at 4000' density altitude without power shifting and around a 1.64 60'. My car weighs 3750lbs and made 580 rwhp on 7lbs. I highly recommend 28x10.5 stiff wall slick and a 2 step is a must, but I did it on a m&h 26x11.5 slick. Really wish I had a 28" slick but my best 60' has been a 1.57 where it went 6.90 1/8 roughly 10.7 on 8lbs with strange drag shocks.

1.57 60 in my tank pulled the 17" stock zr1 wheels a little

That would be a low 10 or high 9 second pass at 3100lbs. My old 383lt1 ran 10.80's N/A and 9's on 150 HP n20. It only made 440rwhp N/A at 3350lbs.
